Centipede grass has only stolon and no rhizome, and there is no information on whether it can withstand a prescribed burn or not. Because of that, applying the prescribed burn for Centipede grass was unknown. After 1 year of an experiment, we found that the prescribed burn for Centipede grass did not affect spring green-up and also could maintain the turf quality and coverage similar to mowing practice. We consider that instead of mowing, the prescribed burn for dormant Centipede grass could be an alternative maintenance practice.
