JOURNAL FREE ACCESSConcerning the operating circuits for high-mercury arc lamp, the authors propose plural operating circuits of plural lamps on a common by-pass circuit which current, nearly sinusoidal, runs with power factor, close to 100%. We connect a common byepass circuit to the tap at point near power source side, using ballast with larger self-inductance than self-inductance L of ballast winding of operating circuit without by -pass circuit. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSTime-resolved measurements of the space charge distribution were carried out by the pulsed electroacoustic method around water trees in crosslinked polyethylene. From the results, the conductivity and permittivity of water trees are estimated. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA misfire phenomenon taking place in a discharge circuit composed of a capacitor and a thyristor has been investigated. This circuit was operated at a frequency up to 198Hz. A misfire was observed in a circuit with a PET capacitor at low temperatures, while no misfire was observed with a PP capacitor at any conditions. Transient currents in the range of 40A-1mA were measured with a digital oscilloscope. In case of a PET capacitor, the current decreases exponentially at a given time constant initially, however it shows a slow decay which causes the misfire. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSElectrical discharge phenomena occurring from a grounded electrode located in a charged particles cloud have been investigated. Soil conditioning powder particles charged by corona charging were blown to form a space charge cloud. A grounded sphere electrode was placed at the center of the charged cloud to produce an electrical discharge. Positively pulse discharge extended from the sphere electrode toward the charged cloud with a strong luminescence. The brush-like streamer with the maximum length of 170mm appeared at an interval of 30ms. The maximum pulse height of the discharge was 2.4A. The distribution of the electric field around the sphere electrode was obtained from field analysis using a concentric spherical model. It was found that the magnitude of the discharge depends on the radius of the grounded electrode, the size and charge density of the cloud.View full abstractDownload PDF (2954K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSHigh heat flux plasmas are produced by high power(_??_14kW) ICRF heating using inverter power supplies in the linear divertor simulator NAGDIS-II. The power flow of radiated rf power is investigated by a calorimetric method. Conventional power calculation using antenna voltage and current gives that about 70% of the rf power is radiated into the plasma. But increase of the heat load at the target and anode is about 10% of the rf power. Through this experiment, we find that about half of the rf power is lost at the antenna surface through the formation of rf induced sheath. And about 30% of the power is lost into the vacuum vessel through the charge exchange and elastic collision of ions with neutrals.View full abstractDownload PDF (1432K) -

The unintended reflection waves from the test sites cause uncertainty in the measurements.
