In modern automobiles, the ratio of the electric motors used has been increasing every year. Therefore, it is important to produce motors with high quality in automobile manufacturing. The quality of the motors depends on insulation characteristics of the stator coil of motors and the strict insulation test has been conducted during the manufacturing process of the stator. However, this test cannot show the defect point of the insulation and so it is difficult to reuse the stator by repair. If we could know the insulation defect point, the stator can be reused by minor repair and the productivity can be much improved.
In a large scaled motor for a power plant, the electrical partial discharge due to the insulation defect at the stator coil has been monitored by non-wired measuring systems. However, this is the monitoring system whether the motor works normally or not. This is not used to predict the location of the electric partial discharge point.
In this paper, we propose the measuring system to predict the insulation defect point due to electric partial discharge.

This paper presents a new blended instruction model incorporating mobile-based e-Learning into a traditional non-wired classroom in foreign language teaching. The mobile tool adopted here is iPod Touch. Our lesson was designed based on the motivational model proposed by John M. Keller, which is widely known as the ARCS model. Our study considers the effect of this teaching model on students'vocabulary retention and oral speaking ability, and evaluates the course model in terms of the ARCS model, conducted at Japanese national college of technology. The results suggest that the course stimulated learners'interest sufficiently, and changed their attitude of their learning strategies in a more communicative direction.

An engineering education program that integrates conceptual knowledge with hands on learning is needed so that students can better solve engineering problems. TekBots Platforms for Learning™ (TekBots® PFL), developed at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University in the United States that is an agreement university of Fukuoka Institute of Technology, integrates a curriculum into a coherent whole while providing an environment for innovation. This paper shows the TekBots PFL and how it has been adapted to the curriculum of electrical engineering at Fukuoka Institute of Technology.

Hydrophilic treatment of polyimide has been investigated using Ar-O2 mixture gas surface wave plasma apparatus. As results, sufficient hydrophilic treatment has been observed in the position well away from a dielectric plate for surface wave plasma generation. Spatial distribution of electron temperature and electron density showed the rapid decrease with increasing distance from the dielectric plate. However, catalytic probe measurement of atomic oxygen radical density showed the high oxygen radical density in the position well away from the dielectric plate. Hydrophilic treatment experiment was conducted at different two positions by adjusting treatment time to accomplish same oxygen radical amount reaching. Water contact angle of these two treated sample showed good agreement. Important contribution of the atomic oxygen radical in the downstream region of surface wave plasma had been shown through the hydrophilic processing experiment of polyimide.

The effects of gas species and gap length on ozone generation of a homogeneous DBD type ozonizer were investigated. The maximum ozone yield by the oxygen fed homogeneous DBD type ozonizer was 33 g/kWh at specific input energy of 780 J/L, which is almost the same as that obtained by the air fed homogenous DBD type ozonizer. Although 55 g/kWh was achieved by the oxygen fed homogeneous DBD type ozonizer with 0.3 mm gap length, the yield drastically decreased to 30 g/kWh when high specific input energy was injected. However, the yield by the oxygen fed homogeneous DBD type ozonizer with 0.7 mm gap length was 54 g/kWh. The decrease of the yield was slight even when high specific input energy was injected.

Heat-resistant domain-refined grain-oriented electrical steel sheet is produced by applying domain-refining technology using linear grooves. We investigated the domain structure of grain-oriented silicon steel sheet with grooves formed on one side by electrolytic etching method. The domain structures on the grooved side and the flat side were observed by a type-II Lorentz SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) method. The magnetic field was applied to the specimen in the rolling direction using a yoke with a magnetizing coil inside SEM.
In the demagnetized state, the domain structure consisted of main domains that were separated by 180 degrees domain walls and spike domains that were connected with the grooves. The width of the main domains on the grooved side was narrower than that of the flat side. In the DC magnetized process, the main domains having magnetization parallel to the external field widened. When the external field was increased, a shape of antiparallel domains occasionally changed from a stripe into a triangle. On the flat side, the triangular domains were connected with a line corresponding to the grooves.

A VHF band helical antenna using Fe based amorphous powder with a few µm diameter/epoxy composite material was fabricated. The composite material consisted of Fe based amorphous powder and epoxy resin, which had larger wavelength shorting effect due to the higher permeability and permittivity than those of free space. Fe based amorphous composite has miniaturization factor ((µr' εr')1/2) of about 6-10 and normalized impedance ((µr'/εr')1/2) of about 0.7-0.8 at 215 MHz (VHF band). This paper describes the magnetic/dielectric properties of composite materials and the radiation patterns of helical antenna with Fe based amorphous composite material.
