    NNSS position fixing errors used the 400MHz receiver arises by a few sources. Then, this paper analyses the error due to the displacement from side to side from the orbit face of the satellite (in general, these value (η_κ) is not used for the position fixing computation of one wave receiver), and also describes about the affection of (η_κ). As the method of the analysis, we compare the position fixing error computed by the measurement with by the simulation. In result, we could analyse the trend and the range of the error by the simulation and proved the trend of the observer location error. That is, the error mainly appears in the longitude direction at the low latitude and the latitude direction error increases as the higher latitude. Also the trend of the error almost fixes at the observer location.

    A computing method of three-dimensional position fixing using a least square method to determine the optimum antenna height from satellite passes data was studied. This paper describes a systematic error mainly caused by the effect of atomospheric Doppler errors appeared in two-dimensional fixing, and presents the comparison of ten different computing methods for three-dimensional position fixing. The following conclusions were drawn from this study ; 1) The error that occurs in the path of propagation of a electromagnetic wave can deals with as a systematic error. 2) The results of each computing method differ from another more or less, however, by the introduction of a systematic error, these results approach each other. 3) These accuracies are about several meters for the determinations of latitude, longitude, and antenna height by 100 satellites passes.

    Our studies are based upon the measuring records at 13 observation sites within the coverage of the Kita-Kyushu Decca chain, through four years (1969-1973). These intense observations were done as much as one hour during the daytime daily, namely normally from 1030 to 1130 hours (JST) with readings every minutes, 10 days every month (1970-1973). In addition to this records, supplementary measurements were carried out at the isle of Tsunoshima in Summer (1978) and in Winter (1979), respectively 3 days. These measurments were done during the daytime by the reason why skywave contamination was not encountered. In each pattern of monthly mean at observation sites, the deviations varied respectively, especially in the case of the Red Pattern, the variations of monthly mean of deviations were observed seasonal rise and fall. This striking peak of the seasonal variations were observed through the winter period. This phenomenon should be explained as the result of the diminution in the propagation velocity. In consequense, the authors selected the three observation sites located on the isle to calculate the propagation velocity over the sea. As the result of comparing with the calculated propagation velocity over the sea between the summer period and the winter period, through the winter period, the propagation velocity decreases from 0.04% to 0.08% less than these value of the summer period.

    The accuracy of the OMEGA System is dependent upon the phase stability and predictability of phase variation. To get practical informations on coverage, reliability and accuracy of OMEGA System, Survey on the relative accuracy of the system was conducted in terms of selected pairs and their combination. These are the findings: 1. No pair combination gave relative error average of greater than 3.5 miles and its average was 2.5 miles. 2. In area 13, pairs AB, AE, AF, EF tend to show 5 to 9 cel in excess as an average and BE, BF, 2 to 4 cel in short. 3. Pair combination BE-BF, BE-EF, BF-EF showed relative error average of less than 2 miles. 4. These values change when data are specified with time; day, night or transient.

    This report describes about the effect of measurement error on collision risk [2, 3] for ship and filtering method with Kalman Filter for anti-collision radar system. The effect of measurement error on collision risk is greater than the effect of target's kinematics, especially for far target can not disregarded. It is very difficult to find out small vector change in early stage. The time takes to reach some variation of relative position is necessary to detect the change of target. Figure 11 shows the manner of representation of collision risk which is decided after consideration about the effect of measurement error and small change of target.

    This paper describes a radar signal recorder and a signal analysis system. The system is constructed by (1) sample/hold unit by using CCD, (2) A/D converter and DMA controller and (3) signal analysis unit by using micro processor. The second section of this paper describes the system construction and the examples of operation. The third section will describe the examples of analysis by using of micro processor.

    This paper described about a new-designed scaling adapter for an echo sounder. The scaling adapter has a microcomputer consisted of three chips, 8085A CPU, 8156 RAM and 8755A ROM, and can drawn automatically the patterns of depth scale on the echogram.

    Authors proposed a model for determining the width of a separation zone on the traffic separation at encountering routes with crossing traffic. The model was based on the distribution of ship's tracks and the average maneuver of collision avoidance at crossing encounter, which were derived from the statistical analyses of traffic surveys by rader at narrow channels in Japan. According to these analyses, the distribution of ship's tracks was normally distributed and its standard deviation could be expressed by a regression equation of width of the route and traffic volume there. The width of the separation zone on the model was determined in order to make the following situation for safty navigation ; the roles of ships in the Collision Regulation become clear between each ship of crossing traffic and traffic using separation scheme. Situation was theoretically made by the appilcation of the randam sampling theory. It would be capable by the model for us to evaluate the required width of a separation zone as the function of the traffic volume, the width of route and the average collision avoidance maneuver there in the process of planning a traffic route system.

    Author investigated the traffic characteristics of ships passing through the Nakaura Locks which were constructed under the project of reclamation and water-refreshening of Nakaumi, Simane prefecture. There are three lock chambers of different dimensions, one of which was designed so that a ship with maximum size of 3,000GT may pass through. A computer simulation of bulk service type queueing model has been developed from a base of detailed data collected over a five-month period. The various arrival patterns and serving patterns by ship types, sizes, and so on, together with the simulated lock conditions are then used to generate delay distributions throughout the various stages of the system. Subsequently, the model was used to test alternative strategies in order to improve both the lock performance and ship passing time.

    Navigators using binocular glasses on the navigation bridges, as they frequently do, experience vertical object displacement due to vertical vibration of the bridge. This is because the swing of the binocular glass held by the navigator, reduces visual acuity of the binocular glass. This study deals with the method of obtaining the equal decrement curves of binocular glass visual acuity on the basis of the co-ordinates of frequency and acceleration of the vibration table. The eight subjects on whom the experiment was carried out held binocular glasses in their hands in the standing position, and the binocular glass visual acuity was determined as sinusoidal and random vibration were applied on them. A 5-m HIRAGANA (Japanese syllabary) visual acuity test chart was used for the experiments placing it at a viewing distance of 35m (binocular glass magnification: 7×5m). The results obtained show that the acceleration and binocular glass visual acuity are in rectilinear relation for any frequency when expressed in long scale co-ordinates. Finally, relation between the equal decrement curves of binocular glass visual acuity and ISO's "fatigue-decreased proficiency boundary" is elucidated. This study also covers the mechanism of reduction in binocular glass visual acuity due to vibration.

    It is not clear whether Rule 18 (d) (i) grants a right of the way to a "vessel constrained by her draught", because of ambiguous wording of the Rule. This ambiguity will become a big problem in manoeuvring situation. We have considered the right of the way of the vessel constrained by her draught in the context of the Rule and the drafters' intent of the Conference. The intent of the Conference and the structure of the Rule grant a right of the way to "a vessel constrained by her draught" and then Rule 18 lists in descending order the privileges of ; 1) a vessel not under command, 2) a vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre, 3) a vessel constrained by her draught, 4) a vessel engaged in fishing, 5) a sailing vessel.

    The author has investigated the characteristics of the motions of fishing boats to analyse theoretically the motions of the ship in the waves from the aspect of their seakeeping qualities. In the previous paper, the effect of the hull form and the ship's condition during navigation upon the longitudinal motions of the boat were analysed and discussed. In this paper, the author reports about the effect of these upon the transversal motions. The Ordinary Strip Method (O.S.M.) has been used to analyse the ship motions theoretically, and this method is used on the basis of linear theory. However, boats have stabilization equipments such as bilge keels to decrease the rolling angle, generally. Accordingly the conformal roll damping coefficient which takes nonlinear roll damping resistance into consideration is adopted to treat the linear differential equation of motion. Furthermore, the availability of the O.S.M. was verified with experiments using a simulated radio controlled 2-meter fishing boat model in wind waves.

    以西底曳網漁船の主漁場である東海・黄海の夏季,秋季および冬季の海況特性を明らかにした。また冬季航海で得られた77回の波高計測データから当漁場の波高および波周期特性および数値波スペクトルモデルが導かれた。1)海況特性として卓越した波向および風浪階級は夏季の場合,南〜東の1〜3,秋季の場合,北西〜北北東の2〜4および冬季の場合,北西〜北東の3〜6であった。2)有義波高と波周期との関係は有義波高2m以上の波について,T=3.29√<H_<1/3>>の式で表わされた。3)波高の平均値,最大期待値等の統計値はLonguit-Higginsの示した理論値とほぼ等しかった。4)波スペクトルはI.S.S.C.で提案したModified Pierson-Moskowitz型にほぼ近似していたが当漁場の数値波スペクトルモデルの推定実験式は次の通りである。S(ω)=0.14<H_s>^2<ω_1>^<-1>(ω/ω_1)^<-5>exp{-0.57(ω/ω_1)^<-4>}

    The authors have been studying about a man overboard accident from a fishing boat, as to give a physical interpretation on this problem. Although the many different processes in which these accidents occur have been observed practically, the most important and common primary factors are considered to be the ship's motions due to ocean waves. One of them is the acceleration of the fishing boat due to ocean waves which will induce incessantly the dynamic unblances of a human body during fishing operation. This paper discribes the two kinds of motion analysis of the salmon gill net fishing boat which engages in typical fishing operations in the North Pacific Ocean. The motions of fishing boats due to ocean waves were calculated by means of the theoretical method which was so called the Ordinary Strip Method. Frequency response functions of 6 degrees of freedom motion of the fishing boat were calculated. Based on these frequency response functions, the distributions of accelerations on working areas of the fishing boats were calculated and the relations between these distributions and the man overboard accident were discussed.

    It is very important problem to prevent the life loss at sea casualties. And we have investigated and analyzed statistical records on sea casualties from 1965 to 1974 in Japan from the view point of lifesaving systems and have some results as follows ; 1) About 95 per cent of sea casualties and 80 per cent of life losses occur at smaller ships less than 1000g.r.t. 2) Loss of buoyancy and stability by collision, agrounding, over-flooding and sudden capsizing are main cases of ship losses. 3) A sudden capsizing involve largest risk to human life and more than 40 per cent of life losses occur due to this reason. 4) The mean value of the probability on ship involving to sea casualties is about 0.0387 and the mean value of ship loss probability is about 0.0074. 5) When ship involved to the sea casualty, the mean value of the probability of ship on which life loss occur is about 0.0645 and the figure of this probability becomes to 0.0819 on fishing vessels. 6) When ship involved to the sea casualty, the probability of ship which encounter with sudden capsize and human loss is about 0.3247. 7) Lifesaving systems can be apply even in the condition at 6 of Beaufort Scale of the wind and lifesaving time should be less than 30 minutes period.

    In recent years, a danger of a ship colliding with off-shore structures has been increased as they are built with various purposes. In this paper the authors studied about the effect of current around the bridge pier for safe course-keeping of the ship. At the begining it was examined experimentally about the asymmetrical hydrodynamic forces acting on the ship around the pier. On the fair current and the reverse current, same experimental formulae of these forces were found from measured data. Secondly it was calculated on trajectories of the ship passing near the pier in the fair current and the reverse current. Then authors investigated the close limit to the pier for safe course-keeping which was found by trajectories calculated to all sorts of condition. According to the estimated limit, the dangerous zone is wide as the current velocity is strong and as the ship is small under the same condition of the ship's speed relative to the pier. And it shows that steering is rather effective to the reverse current.

    The authors predicted the sinkage and trim change of VLCC running at shallow water by the calculation of nonlifting potential flow about 3-dimensional body. The calculation was performed by application of Hess-Smith's method to the shallow water ploblem. The calculation results were compared to the model test results by Dand and obtained good agreement.

    This paper presents the mathematical simulation technique to verify ship manoeuvres for VLCC during the berth approach under current. For example, authors tried to clarify whether the 230, 000-dwt tanker is able to manoeuvre easily at 2/3 loaded draught, which is equal to the full loaded draught of the 100, 000-dwt tanker, on a given course line entering Bannosu Sea-berth in Bisan Seto where was passed by the 100, 000-dwt tanker. In this paper, the manoeuvring capabilities are first described, which were got from the regression analysis on results of full-scale test of VLCC, and then the simulation process is explained, where the input data used for the simulation contains the results of the full-scale test on the turning, reverse stopping and Z-manoeuvres of the 230, 000-dwt tanker at the 2/3 loaded draught.

    Dynamic pressure of water on the wall was measured using a rigid rectangular model tank (Dimension : 100cm×100cm×30cm) which was forced to roll with constant amplitude of 6 degrees. A series of experiments were made for a numerous combinations of three factors : water levels (WL), the oscillation periods (T) and the distance (D) between the center of oscillation and that of the tank. The effect of the said distance D appears to prevail over that of the water levels (WL) and period (T). That is, the more D is increased, i) the larger the dynamic pressure grows over the wider area of the wall. ii) the larger the dynamic pressure begins to the exert at larger period (T) compared to the resonance period.

    The purpose of this study is the rationalization of the total transportation system of export cargo making use of systems analysis method. Break-bulk, container and LASH systems are applied to the total transportation from Yokohama, Japan to San Francisco, U.S.A. The evaluation is based on the criterion of minimizing the physical distribution costs (PDC) of cargoes. PDCs are calculated by 18 model equations in break-bulk system, 25 model equations in container system and 24 model equations in LASH system. Each system consists of inland, port and maritime segments from cargo origin to final destination. Calculations were performed for 24 alternatives of break-bulk model, 12 alternatives of container model and 16 alternatives of LASH model. The results showed that the effects of the unit load system are remarkable in the reduction of the inland and port process PDC which are bottleneck points of break-bulk system. The container system should be operated more safely and efficiently. And the LASH system should be applied to the trade routes between north and south and places which have good waterways when social and technical conditions should be ready, because this system is optimum for the transportation of steel materials, lumbers, heavy vehicles, lengthy and bulky cargoes.
