A 10-year-old American Cocker Spaniel presented with bilateral chronic otitis. Obstruction of the ear canal was identified because of multiple nodes and swelling of the ear canal. The ear canal nodes were removed by video otoscope and semiconductor laser. The pathological findings were ceruminous gland adenoma and ceruminous gland hyperplasia. After the procedure, the ear canals were washed with neutral electrolyzed water at regular intervals. On the 60th day following the procedure, the ear canal problem had successfully improved.
A 9-year-old castrated male Toy Poodle was presented with pain, erythema and erosion on the footpads. A diagnosis of necrolytic migratory erythema due to vacuolar hepatic degeneration (hepatocutaneous syndrome) was made following clinical and histopathological examinations. The dog was treated with prednisolone, zinc supplement, liver support therapy, egg yolks and intravenous amino acid infusions. The cutaneous lesions improved temporarily, but the dog passed away with anemia, diabetes and bacterial infection 207 days after this presentation. Blood total branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) and tyrosine levels were monitored during treatment and their significance was investigated.
