A tele-conference system via ISDN was modified for the use of a distance lecture with two-way communication between a lecturer and students. The purpose of this research is to evaluate this educational system by investigating the impressions of the students. In study 1, the author used the questionnaire of 26 items three times to evaluate subjectively the distance lectures. Seven factors were extracted by factor analysis and named, "contents of a lecture," "sounds," "distance education," "a screen," "monitors," "fatigue," and "questions." The system was generally favorably evaluated with respect to these five factors. The results also point out some problems concerning the clearness of a screen picture and the ease of questions. In study 2, it was examined whether or not the impressions were different among the students depending on where they were seated and the times of attending the lectures. There were little differences, although the students in the front could see the monitor more easily than the students in the back. These results showed that a tele-conference system is useful for distance education.
