The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of teacher's body movements upon learning. These movements, as observed within the instructional process, can be analyzed as kinetic components of non-verbal communication. The rotation method was used for this study, the independent variable being the teacher's body movements as measured using the categories developed by EKMAN and FRIESEN (1969). Categories used were the "illustrators," including batons, spatials, pictographs, kinetographs and deictics. A questionnaire was used to measure the pupils' understanding of the story immediately after the teacher had completed telling it. The results indicated that incorporating illustrators into the teaching methods will facilitate the pupils' levels of understanding.
