There are two kinds of SiC fibres from precursors. One of them is made from a precursor named polycarbosilane (SiC
(PC)>) and the other is made from polytitanocarbosilane (SiC
(PTC)). Compatibility between these SiC reinforcements and four different aluminium alloys in composites was investigated. The composites were fabricated by using a squeeze casting technique. All alloying elements, Cu, Si, Mg, Zn, promoted deterioration of the reinforcements. In comparison of the fibres which were extracted from as-fabricated composites, SiC
(PC) had a higher strength than SiC
(PTC). On the other hand, SiC
(PTC) fibre maintained a higher strength than SiC
(PC). which were extracted from the heat treated composites.
