A wide variety of historical materials and cultural assets exist in Japan, and these are attracting attention not only as academic materials that contribute to academic research but also as cultural resources that contribute to social promotion and development. On the other hand, about the preservation and succession of academic materials, in addition to the 'sudden loss of materials' caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes, the response to 'slow material loss' caused by depopulation due to population decline, etc. Realistic measures are necessary. In this presentation, we will introduce examples of the organization and utilization of academic materials. Furthermore, based on these, all participants would like to consider the transfer and use of academic materials for the future from the viewpoint of information resources and open science.

This report introduces attempt to sustainable historical resources. Currently, the long-term preservation of historical resources is a major issue in Japan. In addition to the routine disposal of resources, frequent calamities in the Japanese society result in population losses, along with the loss of livelihoods, culture, and records. To deal with these conditions, the project seeks to avert the corresponding loss by creating a data infrastructure, specifically through digitization. It attempts to prevent actual loss of records by adding information like latitude and longitude to the metadata and contents of historical and cultural records, ascertaining their location, and making use of them in various fields. Compiling this data goes beyond simply collecting it—it is necessary to both create high-level data based on historical research and document research, and make it internationally available for practical use. This report sheds light on example cases.

The landscape restoration research of medieval manor / village started in 1980s as urgent investigation of wide-area paddy site associated with the field improvement projects. However, the traditional method of investigation is facing difficulty due to the increasingly aging informants and depopulation. While at the same time, high school/junior high school social studies teachers who have been playing important roles in the regional history study are deprived of the opportunities to engage in regional history study due to today’s increasingly busy school site.

This report introduces a practice of “grassroots history” that aims at fostering school teachers toEngage in the next-generation regional history study, which in specifically the investigation/photography of historical materials/cultural properties conducted each year in the course of “historical practice” and of writing graduation/master’s theses at Social Studies Department, Faculty of Education, Kanazawa University. We hope this report would be an opportunity to think about the regional history study and history (social studies) education in the future.

Kaga-Yuzen is a dyeing technique and/or a product, especially Japanese traditional clothing ‘kimono’, made with this technique in Kaga province, where is now the south-half part of Ishikawa prefecture of Japan. In this paper, the author presents the work for digitally archiving/preserving the designs or pencil drawings for Kaga-Yuzen kimonos. The author also discuss how digital collections in this data science age should be to increase their social and cultural value. The key idea is direct/indirect collaborations with data science researchers, by providing machine-readable data, metadata, and informative annotations.

On the other hand, with regard to the preserving and inheriting of academic materials, it is an urgent issue to deal with 'slow material loss' due to population decline as well as 'sudden loss of material' due to natural disasters. response to these situations, AMANE. LLC jointly sponsors the “2019 Academic Camp in Noto” in collaboration with the National Museum of Japanese History and the theme of the preserving, inheriting and utilizing of local academic materials. In this presentation, we will introduce the issues and achievements of 2019 Academic Camp, as well as the basics of research meeting where experts from various fields and positions share social issues and conduct more practical discussions.

This paper describes a measuring method about course ordering based on computer science curricula J17-CS. Online course contents consists with a large number of combination of courses, has played an important role of education in our society. It is not easy for users to understand prerequisite knowledge and related courses. We examined whether the course knowledge and their hyponymy relations are available to predict course ordering.

In recent years, the digitization of local materials such as local history has progressed, but it is difficult to grasp how much it is specifically digitized and opened publicly. In this presentation, we estimated the progress of digitization based on the survey of metadata and digital materials using search portals such as NDL Search and Japan Search. In addition, we investigate the extent to which the regional portals with local resources such as local history and regional history and digital materials are included in the national portals such as NDL Search and Japan Search. The issue of opening up the digitized regional materials in the future was discussed.

In 2018,the presenters conducted a video production based on regional materials and a transmission project on SNS in the Kurokawa area of Noto-cho,Ishikawa Prefecture. The Kurokawa area is a village of Noto Tenryo, and there are many "regional materials" such as cultural assets such as the prefecture-designated cultural property Nakaya family residence and customs unique to Noto.Currently, local residents are using the Nakatani Family Housing for regional revitalization and exchange activities .However ,cultural properties ,traditional customs ,and Nakatani Family documents are not well known. In addition,it is becoming difficult to pass on local data due to factors such as depopulation and aging. In order to increase the historical value of the district and continue the inheritance of local materials,it is necessary to disseminate the details and charms of history and culture widely. In this presentation,we will introduce the efforts aimed at disseminating and disseminating the history and culture of the Kurokawa district to the whole country in cooperation with local residents, and discussing methods for transmitting local cultural information using SNS.

Presenters are carrying out the Open Repository from August 2018 in order to verify the concept of “Successive Disclosure” in which information generated in the process of investigating and organizing academic materials is released sequentially according to its progress. From the perspective of open science, significance of “Successive Disclosure” is as follows. The first, the existence of the materials is publicly affirmed from the initial stage of investigation and organization, so the ground of the research becomes clear. And the second, the generation process of investigation and organization data is visualized, so the quality and reliability of the investigation and organization data are evaluated.

However, if academic materials exist as a regional materials, so several problems arise when practicing “Successive Disclosure”. This presentation considers this issue.

Recent years, an attempt for the purpose of publishing, sharing, reusing data called "Open Science" has become active for easier access to papers and research data. Along with this, in Japan, academic repositories are built at many academic research institutions using a repository system named WEKO. When we consider using WEKO as a data repository, it is not easy for the users to search the data which they wish because metadata are not well standardized in many academic elds. In the present study, we developed a new user interface for the data repository using WEKO3, which is expected to be a mainstream of repository system in the future. We propose a tag management system to manage items stored in the data repository by assigning various tags. We also introduce several APIs for tag management such as registration, search, editing, and extraction of the information.

Local materials are preserved not only in their original regions, but also in research and educational organizations, such as a university. It is a typical example that a researcher whose subject is a specific region compiles primary sources (archival materials) about the region in the research process, and the materials are deposited or donated to a university. These materials are mainly treated and preserved for the research and educational purposes, but the materials themselves tend not to be open in the region because they are not the results of the research. It is reasonable to suppose that the characteristic of archival materials is one of the causes of the problem, therefore the problem may be solved by an appropriate tool in accordance with the process of archival management in a research and educational organization. We show the case of Kyoto University Digital Archive System “Peek,” and discuss how to manage local materials in a research and educational organization.
