The National Institute of Informatics has been developing an environment called "Integrated Log Platform" for cross-sectional analysis of logs from the Research Data Cloud provided by the Institute. In this presentation, we will introduce some of the results of log analysis using the functions of this platform, especially for CiNii logs. The features of this platform are (1) creating a user action label (vocabulary) for a log (URI), and (2) organizing access logs into meaningful units ("access graph"). This research shows the possibility of these functions to model the behavior of individual users.

The National Institute of Informatics has developed and operates CiNii, an online database and search service for accessing Japanese academic information, but since the majority of its content is in Japanese, its current main users are from within Japan. In order to expand the use of CiNii to overseas, this research aims to make it easier to find content using languages other than Japanese. We have developed a service for evaluation by using machine translation to add English meta-data to the existing CiNii meta-data in batches. This paper describes the outline of the evaluation service, and reports on its effectiveness in improving content findability, issues it faces, and future plans for development.

There is a movement among local governments to use chatbots on their websites for information provision and consultation services related to administrative services. By providing chatbot functionality, it becomes possible to provide interactive responses, making it possible to provide appropriate information and consultation to citizens who make inquiries when simply providing information on the website is insufficient. Regarding the increasing use of chatbots on municipal websites, according to Honda (2023) ``Current status and challenges of chatbot usage on Japanese city websites'', at the city level, 261 out of 792 organizations have introduced it. At the village level, 11 out of 183 organizations have already introduced chatbots, as revealed by Honda (2024), "Current status and challenges of chatbot usage on Japanese village websites." These two studies show that there is a big difference in the implementation status between cities and villages. This study focuses on Japanese towns, which were not the subject of those two studies, and discusses the current status and issues of chatbot usage on Japanese town websites.

I wondered if I could support regional design with AR and VR. This is because the use of AR and VR has a variety of possibilities, such as conveying the appeal of the region, promoting community involvement, and contributing to the resolution of local issues. Through AR and VR are able to convey the historical, cultural, and natural surroundings of the region as a realistic experience. First, we will show the possibility of this by listing examples in each region. In this paper, we describe the implementation of AR and VR, and show some practical problems. I would like to think about how we can greatly contribute to the realization of more attractive and sustainable local communities in the future.

This paper describes the detailed functions of “Chokusen- WAKA Collection database system” and the statistical results using the database, which was reported at the 27th Annual Conference of the Japan Society for Information and Knowledge in 2019.After the report at the 27th Annual Conference, we received several inquiries about the database. We have now published the database on our website and we have roughly completed the verification of the data in the database. Also we added attribute gender information and the foreword. This paper provides a detailed introduction to the functions of the database and some statistical results. We think this database is probably convenient for accessing “Chokusen- WAKA Collection”. We hope that this database will be used as open data and that we will work together to further evolve it.

School textbooks of former colonies are an area what more studies are needed, as their contents differ from those of textbooks used in Japan at the time, and they are also important materials for understanding the educational ideas and customs of the time. Currently, a major issue is how to preserve old colonial textbooks and make them available to the public in digital format. In this paper, the status of digital public access to old colonial textbooks and teacher's manuals on the Internet in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan is surveyed, and issues for future digital public access to school textbooks of former colonies are discussed.

The evolution of ancient book editions over time is a significant topic in the field of ancient studies. With the advent of digital humanities, the imperative to effectively leverage modern information technology to re-examine and illustrate the edition evolution has become increasingly apparent. Nonetheless, existing research predominantly concentrates on detailed description of specific editions, with less attention given to systematically organizing and presenting the complex evolution processes among editions. Hence, this study endeavors to bridge this gap by establishing a data model based on Linked Open Data (LOD) to represent the evolution of ancient books editions over time with Shishuo Xinyu as a case study. We designed the model with the following two principal components. First, it structures information of each edition and their interrelationships at the metadata level. The structurization of ancient temporal information is also incorporated in to forge the chronological context of the editions. Throughout the modeling process, we utilized the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM) is utilized for its adeptness at flexibly depicting complex events. Second, the textual variants within book contents are marked using the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) , showcasing the evolution of editions at the full-text level. The Web Annotation Data Model is also invoked for its comprehensive annotation capabilities.

In recent years, there has been growing attention towards collaborative efforts between museums and schools to advance education for children, known as museum-school partnerships. These partnerships enhance educational activities, as reflected in museum laws and educational guidelines, which encourage cooperation between museums and schools. Zoos and aquariums, as a type of museum, offer programs tailored for schools, including both on-site visits and off-site programs conducted within schools. In this study, as part of the museum-school partnership initiatives conducted at zoos, we conducted a web survey to assess the availability of information on off-site programs, including outreach sessions, loaned educational materials, and other activities. The results revealed that out of 137 surveyed institutions, 62 offered off-site programs, comprising 25 institutions offering loaned educational materials, 28 providing outreach sessions, and 53 offering other forms of engagement.

Our research explores how to design an interactive computational environment, which supports citizens to explore the space of the historical local statistical data driven by their intellectual curiosity and inspiration. This paper focuses on data physicalization as an innovative way to represent data by mapping data values to physical properties, such as movement, weight, or texture of physical objects. Our premise is that physically representing data about local areas and cultures would encourage people to feel historical data as something familiar, leading to more active data engagement, including data usage as well as data correction. We argue that such data engagement would play a critical role to make best use of digital archives of local historical data for citizens.

AMANE, LLC has been publishing the academic digital archive "AMANE Archives" since 2023, which contains approximately 6,500 materials from Wajima and Oshu City as of March 2024. The purpose of the AMANE Archives is to collaborate with the local community through the sharing of the digital archiving environment, in addition to the “Successive Disclosure” of surveys and research on academic materials. Sustainability and long-term operation of the digital archive environment have become issues, especially for regional materials, and depending on the size of the region, it may be difficult to make the digital archive available to the public. In this presentation about AMANE Archives, we will report on the consideration of how to open the archives to the public based on “Successive Disclosure”, and efforts to operate the archives sustainably in cooperation with the local community.

Japan is home to a diverse range of cultural properties, which are valuable cultural resources. However, a cross-regional data-sharing infrastructure that will serve as a core for sustainable inheritance has not yet been developed for the medium- to long-term collection, preservation, and publication of regional material data that record information on these materials. This paper outlines the basic concept of an information infrastructure for the secure inheritance of regional resource data.

This study examines the process of generating new scientific knowledge based on Structural Hall Theory, one of the major theories in business administration. According to this theory, "When there is a cluster consisting of social connections between people with homogeneity of thought and a cluster with homogeneity that differs from that, when a person (a "structural hole") appears to connect the two, information from both clusters flows into the hole and novel ideas can easily be generated. On the other hand, the co-occurrence relationship of new concepts (author's keywords in scientific papers) in a specific natural science field has not been observed chronologically to support this theory, and the process of generating novel knowledge has not been discussed. This study observed the co-occurrence of author keywords in the research on GaN crystal development for blue LED development, and found that the keywords used in the groundbreaking research (which won the Nobel Prize in Physics) appeared in the structural holes between the two clusters.
