A two-year-old male American cocker spaniel was presented with episodes of chronic nasal discharge and epistaxis. Computed tomography (CT) of the nasal cavity revealed severe cavitary destruction of the left turbinates with presence of a variable amount of abnormal soft tissue in the nasal passage. Rhinoscophic biopsy, mycological cultures and serum beta-D-glucan concentration assay were not helpful in this patient. Rhinotomy and frontal sinotomy were performed to remove the mass in the nasofrontal sinus and surgical debridement. Based on the histological examination of the surgical specimen, a definitive diagnosis of the fungal granuloma was made. After surgery, medical treatment with topical clotrimazole solution and oral itraconazole was performed. At present, no clinical recurrence has been observed three years and four months after treatment.

The effects of warmed fluid therapy on medetomidine (MED)-induced hypothermia in normal dogs were evaluated. Animals were intramuscularly administered physiological saline solution (control) or 40 μg/kg of MED. At the same time, each treated dogs were intravenously administered 10 ml/kg/hr of Ringer's solutions at room temperature (RT) or after warming the fluids with either Animec (ANI) or Medi-Temp (MEDI) for 4 hours. In the MED-ANI group, the tendency to normalize hypothermia was observed, but no significant differences were recorded in rectal temperature between the MED-ANI and MED-RT groups. The results did not significantly support the reduction in MED-induced hypothermia by warmed fluids.

A 19-month-old male Border Collie was referred for chronic cough and intermittent hemoptysis. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest revealed an air crescent sign, which results in air surrounded by radiopaque material along both its inner and outer margins, in a cavitary lesion in the left caudal lung lobe. Furthermore, a histological section obtained using CT-guided lung biopsy revealed fungal hyphae. Therefore, the animal was diagnosed with canine pulmonary aspergilloma. Antifungal therapy and lobectomy improved the dog's clinical course. Aspergillus fumigatus was isolated from resected specimens and confirmed by performing a histological test.

A large unilateral inguinal hernia was surgically repaired using a tunica vaginalis flap in an intact male dog. After castration, the tunica vaginalis was extended in a fan shape to cover the hernia ring. Part of the pectineus muscle was also used for reinforcement. The outcome was favorable with no signs of recurrence or complication at eight months postsurgery. This surgical technique does not require synthetic grafts and successfully repairs the defect without causing unnecessary tension, suggesting that it is highly practical for the repair of inguinal hernias that are not normally repairable by conventional techniques.
