We devised a extension plate for pelvic stenosis and applied to 6 cats with severe chronic constipation due to pelvic stenosis. The plate is made of stainless steel with a 1.2 mm thickness, a 27 mm length, and a 16 or 18 mm width. This plate was placed and fixed at the symphysis pelvina using 6 wirings. This procedure extended the pelvic cavity as much as 12-14mm in width. A few days after the surgery, all the patients showed voluntary defecation with subsequent improvement of severe chronic constipation.

Lymphocyte blastformation of non-adherent lymphocytes was investigated under and after hemodialysis in 15 healthy dogs. Groups examined were as follows; group I underwent hemodialysis (n=6) ; group II received extracorporeal circulation by blood line only without dialyzer (n=6) ; and group III was maintained anesthesia without extracorporeal circulation (n=3) . The number of leucocytes decreased during the first phase of extracorporeal circulation, then tended to increase after 60 min. The lymphocyte blastformation in group I showed a transient decrease 60 min after the initiation of extracorporeal circulation. However, lymphocyte blastformation after extracorporeal circulation did not differ between groups I and II for 7 days, in spite of a transient suppression.
These results suggest that non-specific immunosuppression might occur during hemo-dialysis and that the suppression of lymphocyte blastformation might continue even a few days after hemodialvsis.

A 4-year-old female horse suffering from small intestinal volvulus with severe cardiovascular depression received laparotomy under halothane anesthesia. Following xylazine hydrochloride administration as premeditation, a mixture of ketamine hydrochloride and guaiacol glycerine ether was administrated to induce anesthesia. Because of the hypotension a mixture of dopamine and dobutamine at the same dose (1-3μg/kg/min) was infused. Mean arterial blood pressure increased but was maintained at 55-60 mmHg. In addition, signs of post anesthetic myopathy was observed. Thus, these drugs might be effective to keep higher arterial pressure, however more effective managements must be needed in this type of patients.

A cat with hind limb paralysis, stiffness of the other hind limb, urination disturbance and trauma on the caudal back was presented. By the clinical signs and neurological and radiographic examinations, the diagnosis of the contusion of the spinal cord with the severe muscle damage was suggested. Initially, the cat was treated with corticosteroids and vitamin B complex, however the signs were not significantly changed. Then electro-acupuncture with a low frequency current and microwave therapy were applied to enhance the healing process. As a result, the function of the paralytic limb markedly recovered. The other hind limb with severe trauma was amputated, however the patient showed enough excercise ability with a good physical condition.
