Color reproduction criteria can be found in press printing colors. When sending CMYK digital data via communication lines for remote printing, the sender and receiver (printer) must have the printing color standard for both side. As the model case of printing color standardization, the standardization procedure of Japan Color for Newspaper is described. The printing color standards for sheet fed offset printing (ISO/Japan Color), Germany color standards (DIN, FOGRA) and USA color standards (ANSI/CGATS/SWOP) are also described.

The category or definition of imaging technology has been changed by the information technology. It is necessary to consider the development of the information technology when thinking about the future of the imaging technology. Present information technology uses semiconductor devices and magnetic/optical based information storage, however, it is foreseen that they will face fundamental limitations within decades. In order to enable further progress in imaging or information technology, a novel system using the macromolecules may be needed. This paper reviews the prospects of the giant molecules for the future imaging and information technologies and the other advanced applications.

The manufacturing technique of coated printing paper has been investigated to improve the productivity. However, the higher the coating speed, the more difficult to maintain the product quality. Coating machines for printing paper have been remarkably developed and have greatly contributed to improve the quality of coated paper and to increase the productivity, and it will continue in the future. This report presents the history of development of coating methods, characteristics of typical coating machines and the recent technical trend.
