This research purposes an obstacle detection method for a remote control robot. This remote control robot is automatically stopped by the obstacle detection method using outside image data. An obstacle appearing suddenly is detected by the frame difference method. However, this method does not detect when an obstacle stops. Moving and stopping obstacles are detected from haar-like features detection method identifying pre-read features patterns.

RRT is one of the method which can search the path. However, in RRT, the position of the obstacle, the start, and the goal must be known in advance of the searching process. To overcome these problems, in the present paper, a method is proposed in which RRT is combined with reinforcement learning. The effectiveness of this method is investigated by computer simulation.

Nowadays, the helicopters can be used for various situations. For the helicopter landing, an approach to shock mitigative flight control is described. The control system is based on skyhook damper. The combination control is applied for a factor that the helicopters is underactuated robot. The disturbance observer is also applied to get rid of the disturbance by the influence of the ground effect and the wind. The validity of proposed method is verified by the experiment and simulation results.

A new method for improving surface roughness, in which the large-area electron beam is irradiated in a very short time has been proposed. In this study, the effects of EB irradiation on the micro structure for pure titanium are experimentally investigated. It was found that the crystal grains became small and plate after the EB irradiation. Moreover, it was confirmed that the structure of pure titanium which was originally the hcp(a-Ti), was partially transformed to the bcc(b-Ti) after the EB irradiation. However, it is possible to transform the bcc(b-Ti) to the hcp(a-Ti) by heat treatments.

In wire EDM using a fine wire electrode, the decreasing of wire vibration is important to achieve high-precision machining, because the large amplitude of wire vibration leads to large kerf width. The wire vibration is caused by the impact force due to electrical discharges and wire running. The amplitude can be decreased by increasing wire tension. In this report, the movement of wire electrode was observed by using high-speed video camera and analyzed in order to clarify the relation between wire behavior and wire tension. Moreover, the state of electrical discharges was also directly observed and the possibility to evaluate the discharge dispersion was discussed.

In this research, the electrostatic induction feeding method was applied to the WEDM. Since the influence of the stray capacitance in the circuit can be eliminated, the discharge energy can be minimized to accomplish micro WEDM. This method also allows non-contact feeding of electric current to the wire electrode. Thus high accurate micro WEDM can be realized because there is no wear of brush and the wire vibration does not depend on the cutting direction. In this research, micromachining properties of the electrostatic induction feeding method were investigated using air and oil working dielectrics, and a micro beam of 100μm in length and 3.7μm in width was obtained successfully.

For a meaningful study of basic cell biology as well as for a meaningful bioengineering and pharmaceutical research, it is extremely important to position individual living cells precisely on a patterned surface with a proper control. It is well known that the chemical patterning and other methods for creating cellular microarrays require expensive and multiple steps. Our group has previously shown that the small objects such as polystyrene beads can be brought to the desired locations to form arrays by water suction through the patterned through-chip porous silicon areas. This is a simple, novel and cost effective technique. Here, we show that our device can be used to capture individual polystyrene beads of the size nearly equivalent to the size of living cancer cells.
