In recent years, nanosheets in which the thickness of a polymer structure is controlled to a nano order has attracted attention. The nanosheet has properties peculiar to the nano thickness that it can be attached to a curved surface without an adhesive, and development of bioelectronic devices that can be placed in skin and living tissue in the field of bioengineering is expected. In this research, we aim to downsize the device by functionalizing the nanosheet itself, which is the base material of the device, and functionalize the nanosheet by adding different materials.

Atmospheric Pressure Plasma (APP) is widely used as a surface treatment method and is capable of increasing the Surface Free Energy of a range of polymers. In this research, the effect of APP treatment on the resulting tensile strength (TS) of functional FDM polymers was analyzed. Multi-material samples of functional polymers were manufactured using mainly polyamide and conductive PLA as objects of study. The interface between those materials were treated with APP in different conditions and the TS data compared.

Hybrid joints of a 30% glass fiber reinforced Polybutylene Terephtalate (PBT) and an aluminum alloy (A5052) plate with laser treated surface dimples are made by the Injection Molded Direct Joining (IMDJ). The metal surface is treated by laser to produce micro dimples, and then the melted polymer is injected onto the surface. The materials are joined by mechanical interlocking. This work measures the infiltration depth by first dissolving the metal part and then measuring with a 3D laser microscope. The quantitative relation among injection molding conditions, infiltration depth, and joining strength is revealed. In addition, the contact between metal and polymer is qualitatively discussed with the Scanning Electron Microscope images. It shows not only the infiltration depth but also the close contact between metal and polymer influence the joining quality.

SiC is a kind of promising semiconductor material, but it is difficult to realize high-precision and highly efficient polishing of SiC, owing to its high hardness and high chemical inertness. To obtain atomically smooth surface with high efficiency, we proposed ultrasonic assisted electrochemical mechanical polishing (UAECMP). In this study, effects of application of ultrasonic vibration and mass concentration of the NaCl aqueous electrolyte on the anodic oxidation rate of SiC substrate were investigated.

In this research, we aimed to fabricate RF (Radio Frequency) sputtered ZnO thin film based CO2 sensor for monitoring concentrations of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a non-toxic and harmless gas in small proportions, but excessive amounts may lead to many harmful effects. Harms to nature include greenhouse effect, ocean acidification, suffocation in humans and animals, disturbances in natural cycles, etc. Due to rapid increase in quantities of this odorless and colorless gas during industrial accidents, volcanic eruptions or gas leakages, etc., researchers demand a novel materials for detecting CO2 in atmosphere. Moreover CO2 identification from exhaled breath also contains information about respiratory problems. Towards this goal, we deposited nanostructured ZnO thin film on Au/Ti interdigitated electrodes using RF sputtering technique. The deposited ZnO thin film was characterized for its structural, morphological and topographical studies. Room temperature CO2 sensing studies were performed to check the ability of the deposited ZnO thin films.
