As the user interface of the information system shifts from symbolic manipulation by buttons to intuitive manipulation utilizing sensing technology, haptic interfaces has become necessary. Research and development of haptic interface is progressing from both tactile sensor and tactile display, and it is thought that haptic interface plays an important role in realizing a system that is easy for people to use. This presentation outlines applications of haptic interface and overviews the progress of technologies related to tactile information processing. In particular, we report on a system which senses and transmits the shape and hardness of an object at a remote location and presents it to the user, and a haptic interface which presents the situation of sporting events such as ball games by vibration.
This talk explains the role of simulation in virtual world modeling and realistic character expression can be realized by using real time simulation for virtual character motion generation.
Theorem of light field optics is introduced and discussed. And unique features of the light field applications are shown and explained in this paper. It can be said that a light field device is a kind of instruments which transform information between 3D objects in air and coded data called light field data on 2D plane. So from these coded data on 2D plane a light field display reconstructs volume 3D images in air. This also means that it is not necessary that display plane and reconstructed image are optically conjugated.
