This study discusses the characteristics of settlement promotion housing development using PFI projects. The number of proposing developers has been limited since it has been difficult to enter into the business in local cities given the nature of PFI projects. On the other hand, by stimulating consulting services to encourage project applications and increasing non-price evaluations, some cases received diverse proposals, resulting in development of distinctive architectural forms and designs.

Since the 2014 refugee crisis, Germany has been the European developed country that received the largest number of refugees with the biggest test of refugee housing placement. This article takes the small town of Altena in Germany as the study target, by analyzing the process of ASR’s settlements to clarify the relationship between governmental policies, and social integration. The result shows decentralized accommodation help accelerate social integration and reduce interior conflict under the targeted help of local volunteer group. This paper examines whether satisfaction can be obtained when the temperature difference among rooms is set to be less than 3°C through actual room temperature measurement and interviews. The actual measurements revealed that the temperature difference between rooms was less than 3°C. However, dissatisfaction was expressed by some dwelling units, and the reason for such was surmised. While a temperature difference of less than 3°C is deemed appropriate, an innovative layout should be designed to create a better thermal environment.

This study delves into Type 48 social housing constructed in postwar Japan, with 1,919 units spread across 14 cities. Surprisingly, units in local cities saw minimal resident renovations, maintaining furniture and fittings well. Notably, the spacious south-side living room doubled as a dining area and bedroom. Small serving windows were popular among households with children, while the Oribe-doko had limited use.

A questionnaire survey was conducted among public libraries in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions to compare responses by (1) time series and (2) area of emergency declarations, etc., and to examine the continuation of public library operations during an infectious disease epidemic. In addition, architectural plans for libraries in the new normal era were examined. The number of entrances and the location of counters were found to be effective in the conventional architectural plan in preventing infectious diseases in libraries, and issues were found in area closure and ventilation.

This study focuses on the declining birthrate in Shimane Prefecture and clarifies the impact of school integration on districts after school reorganization. First, we consider the changes in the number of schools and students, as well as the status of the formulation of school reorganization plans by municipalities. Second, focusing on Izumo City, which underwent wide-area merger in Heisei period, we considered three school districts that were on an integrated framework. Furthermore, we took cognizance of the background and the situation after these districts were divided into two districts that joined the integrated elementary school and one district that continued.

This study simulates the people flow in Shibuya station with a free walking space under two modes: before and after earthquake occurrence. The purpose is to verify how to effectively utilize the sparseness and density areas created by the movement of multiple pedestrians and the necessity of installing the guidance device. The simulation examines the effects that the presence or absence of the guidance device has on the station environment, such as shortening pedestrian movements and easing congestion. The results clearly show that the appropriate installation of the guidance device in the target space will help improve safety.

With a decreasing population and aging buildings, some Japanese public libraries relocated and compounded for renewal. However, few studies considered the trends in the dynamic relocation process. Therefore, we conducted a comparative study on 217 relocated public libraries (RPLs), particularly the central and branch libraries in different areas, to investigate the relocation and compounding trends. The results indicated central libraries tended to relocate to commercial zones and compound to commercial or transportation facilities in urban areas. Conversely, branch libraries exhibited joint relocation trends with community centers, tending toward compounds with city halls and schools in residential zones.

This paper discusses the history of the reception of art space in Kagawa. The origin of Japanese art space is considered to be the space of shrines and temples, and is found in Kotohira Shrine. Historically, the shrine has supported artists such as Maruyama Okyo and Yuichi Takahashi. It was not until the postwar period that a modern art museum was built in Kagawa. The Takamatsu Art Museum designed by Bunzo Yamaguchi, which opened in 1948, can be regarded as the first modern public art museum in Japan. Through research, it will reveal the advanced nature of this museum.

The spread of “quiet rooms” in which they can feel at ease is necessary to support them, but their high setup cost is a hurdle. We developed the “Inclusive Quiet Room” which is a new concept of a portable quiet room that combines an easy-to-construct instant house, immersive videos, and relaxing sounds. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness and usefulness of the Inclusive Quiet Room through the analysis of questionnaires and the heart rate of people who experienced it at an exhibition.

To use these trees as a material, it is essential to consider how to use those with countless wormholes with pest control. Therefore, we independently used these trees as boards with wormholes. By evaluating the board-cutting methods and wormhole location in the simulation, we clarified the relationship. After that, we processed them into flooring and indicated them to be one of the ways to use them.

Shimokitazawa is a commercial neighborhood in Tokyo, well-known for its narrow streets, where small shops create an intimate street environment. The blend of these streets and the ground floor of the buildings through the pedestrian activities could reveal the characteristics of a permeability of the neighborhood at eye level, which would lead to a significant urban attribute on a human-centered design. This study aims to clarify the characteristics of commercial streets in Shimokitazawa by investigating the physical components and pedestrian characteristics of the Temporary Edge. The findings suggest different patterns diversifying their permeability and uneven distributions, creating a unique streetscape.

For example, a residential area with many hills including stairs makes going out inconvenient. It was also found that the continuity of residency differed depending on the type of development activity and the longer the years of residence, the fewer the concerns. In areas where convenience is low, it is necessary to consider supporting continued residence by devising other ways to make the area more attractive as a living space.

The objective of this study is to assess the status of market-related initiatives undertaken by local governments, aiming to scrutinize markets as urban strategies that extend beyond mere attractive events. The results indicate that more than half of local governments have implemented market-related projects, yet less than 20% explicitly include such activities in their local government plans. We anticipate that this study will contribute concrete information to enhance our understanding of the broader landscape of market-related projects undertaken by local governments.

Central area of each city has not only strong hub, like central station, inducing people but also main disaster prevention facilities like city hall or emergency transport route. Through CARP, especially upgrading of station plaza is effective because of increasing evacuation capacity in the place where people gather most. On the other, concentration of high-rise residential building makes evacuation capacity in central area unsteady and relatively evacuation facilities preparation for stranded commuters is behind schedule.
