Under the influence of Bergson and Schmitz I have been pursuing the system of Phenomenology of Wind for the decade. From this hypothesis a body and a living flesh are different. The body has the aspects of thing and materiality. On the other hand, the living flesh contains nothing but the spiritual energy. The atmosphere (aura) of a person appears as his/her pneuma (wind) or existential breathing. His/her living flesh is dynamically in the movement, widening and shortening, being excited and swelling, rhythmical and intensive according to the intentional tension and detention. The structure of the living flesh which is fundamentally unified with the world is to be elucidated.

In this study, we performed Rorschach test (comperehensive system) on ED (eating disorder) patients in order to reveal their psychological characteristics, and we discuss how we should approach their problems in ED treatment considering their characteristics. Rorschach test was administrated to 50 ED patiens, and a comparison was made with 240 non-patiens. The comparison showed that ED patients were more likely to be depressive, difficult to have positive relationships, and to have poor control of emotion, and have peculiar cognition. As a conclusion, in treatment of ED, we find it important to pay attention to their depression and try to modify their peculiar cognition to proper one. Group therapy will be effective in that they would experience positive relationships with other patients.

Objectives : Alexithymia in patients with eating disorders has been discussed since the first report by Dr. Bruch. However, few Japanese studies have been done on the relationships between alexithymia and eating disorders. Methods : Sixty-eight female patients with eating disorders (anorexia nervosa-restricting type; n=28, anorexia nervosa-binge-eating/purging type : n=25, bulimia nervosa-purging type; n=15) according to the DSM-IV and 236 controls (female college students) completed the Japanese version of the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and the Japanese version of the Eating Attitude Test-26. Results : No significant difference in total TAS-20 score was found among the subgroups of patients with eating disorders. However, the patient subgroups as a whole had a significantly higher total TAS-20 score than the control group. Notably, the "difficulty in identifying feelings" subscale of the TAS-20 was significantly related to the severity of the symptoms of the patients with eating disorders. Conclusion : Consideration should be given to the possibility of alexithymia when treating patients with eating disorders.

In this case, the obsessive-compulsive symptoms were caused by the pressure of having to keep up appearances in front of other people. Attempts to avoid the uneasiness felt in the presence of others resulted in obsessive-compulsive behaviors. The patient also had great mood swings, and exhibited emotional instability. We intervened by applying Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with psychothrapeutic treatment. So far we have been able to alleviate the feelings of pressure and uneasiness which have been weighing upon the patient's mind, thus enabling her to gradually accept her own self. She is now capable of anticipating her behavior depending on what mood she is in. Though obsessive-compulsive symptoms still persist, the pain and uneasiness accompanying them have largely subsided, and we can say that the patient has attained a certain level of mental stability.

In recent years, it has been pointed out that many panic disorder patients have complications concerning EEG abnormalities. We experienced three panic disorder patients with paroxysmal EEG abnormalities who were given anticonvulsant treatment. Case 1 : A 36 year old female, complaining of attacks consisting of dizziness, dyspnea, and cold sweat. She was diagnosed as panic disorder with some paroxysmal discharges in her EEG records, and was prescribed to sodium valproate. After starting the medication, the patient's complaints dissapeared. Case 2 : A 44 year old female who consulted our hospital about her irritability, dizziness, and nausea. She had a past history of developing convulsions in childbirth. Since her EEG records showed frequent sharp waves, we began treatment with socium valproate, but her symptoms did not change, resulting in using sulpiride and minor tranquilizers. The medication quickly cleared her symptoms. Case 3 : A 58 year old female, who had been using etizolam for a long time due to sudden dizziness and anxiety. By checking her EEG, we also found abnormalities, so started treatment with carbamazepine. The treatment relieved her of dizzines, but because her anxiety persisted, termination of etizolam became difficult. We considered that each of these 3 cases was caused by different pathology, and summarized eath case with regard to diagnosis, progress and treatment.
