Researches have been carried out to develop technologies to machine cemented carbides for dies and molds at high precision and high efficiency. Series of end milling experiments have been carried to machine inclined surface of cemented carbide material with various kinds of ball end mills made of PCD, CBN and diamond coated tungsten carbide. Experimental results are reported here from the view points of tool wear, surface roughness and chip form etc.

A new cutting mechanism for the fabrication of micro-scale grooves has been developed. Based on the control principle of the nano-cutting mechanism using an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), in this system, a single crystal diamond tool is mounted at the free edge of a cantilever beam, and it is used for the removal of the material. On the other hand, during the cutting process, the cantilever presents a deformation that is required for the implementation of a machining force feedback control. In previous experiments, this mechanism has shown that even if the micro-grooves are fabricated on inclined surfaces, it is possible to keep constant its cutting depth, by maintaining constant the normal cutting force using the feedback control system. However, during all those experiments, arbitrary cutting conditions have been used. For that reason, in order to improve the fabrication process of the micro-grooves, several cutting experiments changing the cutting speed where realized to observe its effect on the deformation of the cantilever. In this paper, an analysis based on the experimental results is presented to start determining the optimal cutting conditions for this mechanism.

When silver nanoparticles are applied to antibacterial function, the particles should be positioned not in bulk but to the surface while minimizing the usage. This study proposes a method to compromise these problems. In the first report fine droplets of suspension containing silver particles were placed on a glass substrate with appropriate distance and dots were assembled after drying. Then the assemblies were transferred to another substrate on which UV resin was spin coated. Finally, an antibacterial surface was obtained. By adjusting the size and distance of the dots to compare the antibacterial activity of antibacterial surface with different quantity of nano-silver, a guideline to minimize the quantity of particles was discussed based on antibacterial performance.

Metal-assisted chemical etching (MacEtch) is one of the anisotropic etching processes which enables unique fabrication of high aspect-ratio structure by selective etching at the interface of noble metal catalyst. This study aims to fabricate silicon nano-pillars by MacEtch using densely deposited Ag nanoparticles on substrate. We made clear not only basic machining properties such as etching rate and attainable aspect-ratio but the effect on wettability. Furthermore, potential applicability to hydrophobic surface design was discussed.

Aurora is only visible form of electromagnetic relationship between the Earth and the Sun. The method is in demand to obtain massive number of three -dimensional data easily and precisely. In this paper, the way is proposed to measure three-dimensional aurora position and form from only two stereo images taken with fish-eye camera. It uses triangular-survey method to calculate the positions and auto feature point sets detection. Moreover, the visualization way of aurora for the verification is also introduced.
