The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between dry condition and compressive strength of concrete, not through a conventional testing method using column test blocks (which height does not meet the actual thickness) but through a new one using test cubes with their sides taped and different thickness, in order to obtain more accurate information on the strength of the actual thin shaped structual precast concrete cured by steam.

Since high strength concrete is sensitive to defects and crack propagation, the measured compressive strength seems to be affected by such characteristics of testing machine as platen size, geometry of bearing block and stiffness that have been latent in conventional concrete. The paper deals with experiments and finite element analyses which were carried out to clear the effects of pinned and fixed behabiour of spherical bearing block on the measured strength, the distribution of stress and the failure mode of specimens. The results show that tilting of spherical bearing block under load produces increasingly erroneous results for higher strength concrete. It is recommended that spherical bearing block should be effectively locked during loading high strength concrete by being lublicated with a petroleum-type mobile oil.

Today, it is an urgent necessity to improve on construction work. In the housing construction, it will not too long before new foundation method with pre-fabricated members is put into practical use. To learn actual condition of working time helps us to evaluate the productivity of new foundation method. In this report, the process of the foundation work for detached housing at site was analyzed. The result of time study shows the standard working time can be determined by five factors : the length of wall footing, the side area of wall footing, the number of compartment, the number of crossing and protrusion of wall footing and pre-fabricated reinforcement ratio.

We set up seventeen types of ALC external walls in three conditions of outdoor temperature (0, -10, -20 ℃ : constant) and three conditions of indoor air humidity (40, 60, 80 % R. H. in 20℃) for thirty days, and measured the quantity of vapor flowed into ALC external walls from indoor and the quantity of internal condensation of ALC external walls. As the outdoor temperature lowered and the indoor air humidity is higher, the quantity of flowing vapor and internal condensation increased. On this point, a simple ALC walls (50mm thickness) is typical. As the outdoor temperature lowered, most of flowing vapor into wall accumulated inside wall.

The change of evaluation of floor slipperiness resulted from the change of gait with aging was investigated in this paper. At first, we developped an outfitting equipment for the young to simulate geriatric gait. Secondly, the sensory test was carried out using young panels with and without the equipment. The psychological scale of evaluation relating to slipperiness of sample floors employed for the test was constructed. Then, C. S. R which was the physical value corresponding to slipperiness was measured using "O-Y Pull Slip Meter". Thirdly, based on the correlation between the psychological scale and C. S. R, the difference of the aged from the young in evaluating slipperiness was investigated.

In the first report, the temperature of basement structure of an office building containing heat storage tank was measured and unsteady static heat conduction simulation analysis was carried out by 2D-FEM. In the present report, to contribute to the thermal stress design of basement structure due to heat storage tank, the temperature of a model building containing heat storage tank was analyzed by the same way as the first report. The parameters are heat insulating board thickness (D=0, 25, 50, 100mm) and thermal diffusivity of soil (a=0.0007, 0.0013, 0.0023m^2/h). It was found that the heat insulating board is very effective on reducing the average temperature and temperature gradient of the cross section of basement structure. And the effect of heat insulating board increase nonlinearly to the thickness of insulating board. The thermal properties of soil affect little to the thermal behavior of basement structure in the range of this parametric study.

The temporary concentration of live loads due to the moving or remodeling of a building must be considered as an extraordinary live loads of the multiple-story columns. In this paper, the concentration of furniture was computer-simulated using the surveyed live loads of the office building, and the design load for the axial load of the multiple-story column at the time of furniture concentration was studied. The paper shows the extent to which the reduction factor obtained from the sustained load maintains safety at the time of furniture concentration.

The effect of two kinds of corner-cuttings on vortex-induced oscillation and galloping of three-dimensional square cylinders is investigated in uniform flow. The cross-wind response and vortex shedding frequency are measured on the models with corner-cutting ratios e/d = 0/60 to 20/60, and the mass-damping parameter δ = 0.20, 0.50, 0.75, together with the stationary over-turning moment measurement. As a result, it is found out that although the Strouhal number increases as the increase of coner-cutting ratio resulting in to lower the critical wind speed, the model cutted in right angle with the ratio e/d = 4/60 is most stable, because the vortex-shedding frequency is hardly locking-in until the wind speed becomes 30% higher than the critical. The Den-Hartog's criterion also suggests the adovantage of this particular type of corner cutting.

In this paper, we carried out questionnaire survey of estimating seismic intensity during Hokkaido-Toho-Oki Earthquake at late night, October 4, 1994. After making some modification to original questionnaire forms proposed by Ohta et al., we distributed 64 sets to the convenience store's owners located in Kushiro and Nemuro regions of Hokkaido by mail and received 46 sets in return. As this kind of store is usually located at the ground floor and open until late night or 24 hours a day, the seismic intensity for the late night earthquake seems to be evaluated accurately. This is why we chose convenience stores for our questionnaire. Through conventional process, we estimated the seismic intensity for the area and compared our results with those in previous studies. We confirmed that our approach will be useful to obtain the seismic intensity in the sense of reference points for seismic microzonation.

A Large-Scale Seismic Test (LSST) Program has been conducted at Hualien, Taiwan, to obtain earthquake-induced soil-structure interaction (SSI) data in a stiff soil site environment. Forced vibration tests of the Hualien 1/4-scale containment SSI test model were conducted in October, 1992 before backfill (without embedment) and in February, 1993 after backfill (with embedment) for the purpose of defining basic dynamic characteristics of the soil-structure system. As results, peak frequencies were obtained as 4.1 and 4.3 Hz with twin peaks for both NS and EW horizontal excitation before backfill and as 6.1 and 6.3 Hz for NS and EW excitation respectively after backfill and orthogonal components were rather large. This results suggested existence of principal axes which were different from excitation directions. They were estimated 34 degree before backfill and 30 degree after backfill counterclockwise from NS direction, respectively. After transformed to the principal axes, each resonance curve had single peak and the orthogonal component became negligible. Based on this transformed results, the basic dynamic characteristics of the soil-structure system were obtained, namely, natural frequencies and damping factors. Soil impedances were also obtained by the method minimizing error function defined newly.

This paper proposes a new method for reducing the degree-of-freedom and node in vibration analysis of high-rise plane frames in earthquakes. A theory of the reduction of stiffness and mass matrices in the equation of motion is also established for the proposed method. A finite element model reducing the degree-of-freedom and node by the method are analyzed. The analyzed results of the deformation and member forces of the model are approximate to the exact solution. In conclusion, the proposed method is available for the approximate vibration analysis of high-rise buildings.

Array measurements of vertical microtremors were done at Koto-ku, Tokyo in the Kanto plain, Japan, to deduce an S-wave velocity profile down to the top of seismic bedrock. The array consists of 13 sites with spacings of 0.2 to 4 km. Rayleigh wave phase velocities at periods from 0.8 to 5 sec were determined from a frequency-wave numeber spectrum analysis of the records. The observed phase velocities were inverted to an S-wave velocity profile by an inversion based on genetic algorithms assuming a four-layer model. The inverted profile has a sediment thickness that is thinner than those deduced by seismic refraction survey and a deep borehole near the array. We included Love wave phase velocity data determined from an earthquake array observation into the inversion of the phase velocity data from microtremor measurements. The resultant new structure is in a better agreement with deep borehole data than that inverted only from microtremor data.

This paper develops an analytical approach to the estimation of seismic random response of multi-degree-of-freedom elasto-plastic systems with bilinear hysteretic characteristics under the saturation control force. Numerical calculations are carried out and the efficiency of the theoretical nonlinear control approach is examined cocerning interstory floor displacement, velocity, absolute acceleration response, ductility factor and shear force coefficient. Trade-off relationship between nonlinear effect of control force and hysteretic energy dissipation based on energy balance is also examined. The usefulness of the analytical approach under seisimic random earthquake excitiation is demonstrated through the simulation analysis.

The lateral resistance of a pile near a cliff, slope, revetment etc. is lower than that of a pile in ordinary flat land. The authors carried out a series of simulation analysis and model lateral load tests of piles near a cliff. From these analysis and model tests results, we found the influences on the lateral resistance of the pile by factors such as location of the pile installation in relation to the cliff, distance from the pile to the cliff, height of the cliff and modulus of deformation of. soil.

The purpose of this paper is to study dynamic buckling behaviors and dynamic characteristics of clamped shallow spherical caps under a hydrostatic pressure load and dynamical cyclic sine-wave pressure loads, aiming to analyze the stability for caps in nonconservative systems as dynamic random loads. In this nonlinear analysis it is used that the method based on both of the finite element method and the mode-superposition method. In the numerical study the following results were obtained. 1) There are two types of dynamic buckling mechanisms, the symmetric snap-through and the asymmetric bifurcation buckling mechanisms. 2) The dynamic bucking loads drastically decrease to be affected by the dynamic resonance on symmetrical modes. 3) The qualitative fluctuations of dynamic behavior, the appearance of dynamic buckling phenomena, occur by the change of the magnitude of static pressure loads.

This paper presents bond and anchorage properties of 2-dimensional grid type FRP reinforcement in concrete and consists of an experimental study and an analytical one based on the test results. In the experimental study, pullout tests, and bending-shear loading tests of FRP reinforcement are performed to investigate the bond and anchorage properties of the FRP reinforcement. In the analytical study, finite element analyses are performed to make the mechanism of bond resistance clearer. Finally, the model used in the analytical study is examined to be reasonable by the comparison of the test results with the analytical ones.

To control the failure mode of R/C column during a strong earthquake, the flexual strength of the critical section and the shear strength of the column should be accurately estimated. Antisymmetric eccentric compression tests and symmetric eccentric compression tests of R/C columns were carried out. The compressive strength of the concrete used in this experimental study ranged from about 300kg/cm^2 to about 600kg/cm^2. To calculate the flexual strength of the critical section of a R/C column subjected to axial force, bending moment and shear force, bending moment-compressive force interaction curve of concrete (Mc-Nc curve) is proposed in this paper. The Mc-Nc curve is much bigger than that obtained by using 0.85・σ_B stress value of stress block, which has been used for a long time to estimate the flexual strength of R/C section.

This paper describes the bond splitting strength of all lapped splices at the same section with large-diameter bars. In this study, experiments with lapped splices subjected to pure bending and bending with shear were conducted. Examined was the applicability of the equation for bond splitting strength proposed for the main reinforcement D19 in the past to the conditions under large-diameter bars. From this investigation, it became clear that the bond splitting strength of lapped splices with large-diameter bars could be estimated sufficiently by the proposed equation for bond splitting strength based on the main reinforcement D19, and data for the design of the lapped splices with large-diameter bars were obtained.

We presented the suggestion concerned with bracing method for the improvement of the plastic deformation capacity of H-shaped beam. The primary concept of this bracing is attachment to beam, and non-sharing inner stress of beam, the control of the deformation of flange or web after buckling as elastical bracing. Then, the subject was local buckling behavior mainly. On the other hand, there is the case that the buckling behavior of H-shaped beam is local buckling consistented with lateral (torsional) buckling, and the lateral buckling produces a larage effect on plastic deformation capacity. In this paper, under the condition affected by local buckling and lateral buckling, the plastic deformation behavior of H-shaped beam with the presented bracing is investigated. This bracing is based on the above concept. And experimental and numerical analytical researches clarify the primary properties of this bracing.

In the present study, we clarified quantitatively the effect of the torsional stiffening device as the steel pipe to the web of H-section by the results of the experiments and the theoretical analysis. And we proposed the another method to improve a lateral strength of H-shaped beam. The method is to add the steel pipes connected to the web and flanges of the H-section. This enables to increase torsional rigidity and lateral buckling strength greatly and it is possible to set up the web opening. We confirmed validity of the proposed device.

This paper describes CAD/CAM/FA System for PC middle-rise apartment. In this Part 1, the Author reports on the results of research for building up a drafting system by making use of CAD that makes design drawings of PC houses and PC panels efficiently and unmistakably. Unifying the expression form in the drawings and rearranging the design drawing process sequence, diagram data created in the preceding process were able to be used in the succeeding process. Thus, highly efficient drafting system was realized.

Our answers are summarised as the following two points : (1) The main purpose of this study is not to predict accurately the compressive strength or the rigidity, but to explain qualitatively the failure behavior of concrete under various stress states, that is to say the constitutive law, by a numerical method using a simple system of non-continuum element. (2) In this analysis, in order to express the large deformation behavior of concrete material after cracking, the authors have tried to apply the simple constitutive law for one dimensional element.
