    The applications of laser microprobe for the spectrochemical analysis were studied on some specimens. The Jarrell-Ash Laser Microprobe Model 45-604 was mounted on an optical bench with a Littrow type spectrograph.We have observed the laser effect on specimens and the characteristics of spectra resulted from laser fire with or without auxiliary spark excitation.
    The intensities and the precision of the measured spectral line were investigated under some sparkconditions.The preparation of standard samples was studied and the analytical curves of Cu, Fe, Cr, Ag and Pb have been obtained.The laser microprobe has been successfully applied to various samples, archaeological analysis of old china, and a medical consideration on the tissues of cancerous andnormal prostates were carried out.

    The angular shift caused by thermal expansion of analyzing crystal seriously affects the accuracy in the quantitative measurement of special X-ray fluorescence analysis such as the determination of coordination number of alminium.It is necessary to keep the variation of temperature of analyzing crystal within a certain limit during the experiment, so that the angular shift by the temperature variation can be neglected.For this purpose, the attachment for controlling the temperature of analyzing crystal was divised.The analyzing crystal was immediately heated by a manganin heater and temperature of the crystal was controlled within±0.3°C by means of a commercially available temperature controller.
    Using the temperature control attachment the thermal expansion coefficients of analyzing crystal, EDDT and ADP, were measured from the change of diffraction angle for Al Ka and Mg Kα spectral lines with temperature. The mean thermal expansion coefficients αEDDT (020) and αADP (101) in the range between 20°C and 40°C were 18×10-6 and 14×10-6 respectively.The error in the measurement of diffraction angle (2θ) was less than±0.002°C.

    A vacuum far infrared interferometer designed for the measurement of transmittance, reflectance and refractive index of the samples has been constructed. The instrument is used in the symmetric mode of operation for the measurement of the spectral power and in the asymmetric mode of operation for the spectral phase measurement. To improve S/N ratio without distorsion of the signal, the interferogram is recorded stepwise using a stepping motor and its control system.
    The reproducibilities of the transmittance and refractive index of the sample are presented to illustrate the performance of the instrument. The reproducibility of the refractive index is less than±0.3%.

    Application of glassy carbon electrode to the emission spectrochemical analysis, and especially possibility of the application to the continuous emission spectrometry are studied.
    Glassy carbon electrode is easily reclaimed because of its impermeability.In spark discharge, dissipation of the electrode is small, and therefore the electrode can be used over 100 times.
    Stable spark is obtained by use of glassy carbon electrode.Since spark column is thick, intensities of the spectral-lines are three times as intense as those obtained by use of ordinary carbon electrode. The impurities in glassy carbon electrodes are not important in the case of spark excitation, continuous emission spectrochemical analysis becomes possible if the rotating disk spark technique is used with samples prepared in liquid phase.It is thought that glassy carbon is only electrode material usable in continuous emission spectrochemical analysis.
