A long time has passed since the global warming, which is caused by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO
2), started to be apprehended. A decade ago, saving power is the “eco” action and all manufacturers compete each other to have the lowest power consumption. However, in the international framework, saving power is just a part of the action. It is necessary to consider one product's environmental burden through its life time. Multi Function Peripheral (MFP) or printers consume paper. It is well known that paper has a large Carbon Foot Print (CFP) from its enormous energy consumption through production process. Toshiba Tec Corporation believes that it has a sustainable value to lessen this CFP, and in 2013, released the MFP with the erasable toner to reuse the paper. This paper reusing system is called “Loops”. In this article, I would like to explain the technology behind “Loops”. (Loops is the registered trademark in Japan of Toshiba Tec corporation.)
