Drilling experiments are made with a 3.7kW electrodrill, using corn, blade and diamond impregnated bits, respectively. Sandstone, tuff and andesite of which compressive strengthes are from 200 to 800kg/cm² are drilled by these bits. Rotating speeds are between 690 and 740 rpm depending upon bit weight which is ranged from 40 to 300kg. In these experiments following conclusions are obtained:
1) A cone bit is the most favorable for the electrodrill, because it gives a high drilling rate and a low torque.
2) The electrodrill can not give a high bit weight, and this causes a low drilling efficiency. Notwithstanding a low efficiency of the electrodrill, it can drill comparatively fast, because its rotating speed is high.
3) Three means are proposed to increase the drilling efficiency of the electrodrill: 1) to increase the output of a motor in order to give a higher bit weight, 2) to reduce the rotating speed to a reasonable level, and 3) to use a proper bit specially designed for the electrodrill.

The Cretaceous in the central Hokkaido are grouped into the upper, middle, and lower Ezo groups.
These groups overlie the Jurassic Sorachi group and are covered by the Paleogene Ishikari group. The dominant carbonate rocks of these groups are limestones such as micrite, sparite and biolithite in the form of layers and nodules. Limy lithic wackes occur sometimes in the middle Ezo group. Carbonate facies are found remarkably in Tomitoi formation of the lower Ezo group, and Saku and Shubu (main part) formations of the middle Ezo group.
Average effective porosity of the layered carbonate rocks in the studied area is approximately three per cent and is considerably lower than that of oil-bearing Neogene Tertiary in the northwestern Honshu. The average ratio of carbonate rocks in thickness to total outcrops is nearly five per cent and is almost equal to that of the northwestern Honshu. These data indicate that the Cretaceous carbonate rocks in the studied area have a lesser character as a petroleum reservoir.

最近5年間にわたり,新潟新第三系堆積盆地において堆積構造の調査が行なわれてきた。この地域の新第三系には種々の堆積構造が観察される。堆積構造から堆積時の古流系の方向を復元してみると,全域にわたり鮮新世の初期,地層名でいうと西山階の浜忠部層と西山部層の間で顕著な差がみられる。すなわち,西山期(狭義)以降になると,古流系の方向が現在の地質構造に強く規制されるようになり,このような規制の認められない浜忠期以前とはまったく異なっている。古流系,等層厚線図,古環境などを参考に,簡単な古地形図を作ってみると,西山期(狭義)になって初めて現在みられる,いわゆる新潟トレンドの背斜構造の形成が始まり,盆地が分化していったものと考えられる。長野地域においては,西山階(広義)に対応する柵層堆積時になると,背斜構造の形成が開始されたもののようである。
砂,礫など粗粒堆積物は堆積盆地の中の地形低所に主として分布している。この点は粗粒物質ほど供給源に近く堆積するという古典的な考え方とあいいれず,石油探鉱,ことにこれから盛んになるであろう層位封塞型鉱床の探鉱に十分考慮するべき問題と思われる。
