This research examines the crisis resulting from the vocational adaptation of juvenile delinquents divided into 5 types. The following are results.

E-type : This crisis is due to vocational maladjustment which occurs as soon as people begin to work. Most delinquents who fall into this category have a tendency to live in idleness. Although they have a heavy problem due to vocational adjustment, they do not deepen the inclination toward delinquency.

F-type : This crisis results from a change of role in family. There are many processes to become delinquents in this type. Such a change is felt to be a burden for them because there are few in their age group who have such experiences. Those who fall into this category tend to lose control in their lives rapidly and some of them become delinquents. Such delinquents also have a problem with vocational adjustment. On the other hand, they do not deepen the inclination toward delinquency.

D-type: This crisis results from the decline of employers. Delinquents who fall into this category as employees are divided into 2 groups. One is the vocational adjust group. The other is the lazy group. The former, however who are able to adjust to their jobs, often change jobs and don’t find a sure means of making their living. As delinquents in both groups don’t choose their job with a long-term view, they make themselves delinquents. Sometimes such a crisis makes delinquents not only weakens vocational adjustment but also deepens the inclination toward delinquency.

W-type : This crisis occurs when people are unable to continue to work because of the illness or injury. Delinquents in this type are also divided into the vocational adjust group and the lazy group. The former does not lead atable lives although they are able to adjust to their jobs. As the latter paticularly neglects work on the pretext of illness or injury, they are apt to misbehave. This crisis also influences vocational maladjustment and the depth of the delinquency.

Y-type : This crisis occurs when a member of antisocial groups encourages people to take part in his group. The delinquents are divided into racketeers and gangsters. Generally delinquents who become racketeers did not adjust to their jobs. The delinquents in this type deepen the degree of their misdeed as they associate with members of the groups. This crisis greatly influences their delinquency and antisocial inclination.

The social pathology in the field of education is educational pathology. In this study concerning educational pathology, I have focused on the educational action which has a disfunctional influence in spite of the good intention of those concerned to bring about better results through educational efforts.

This study aims at clarifying (1) what kind of influence pathological experiences have on ego-identity achievement, which is an important factor in the developmental task of adolescence, and (2) what kind of significance they have in juvenile crime and delinquency, by comparing groups of ordinary students with groups of delinquent juveniles.

The procedures I have followed and the results I have deduced from them are as follows:

    (1) I devised a valid and reliable scale to measure the pathological experiences.

(2)I compared EPS (educational pathology scores) with IDS (identity dimension scores) and then EPS with IS (identity scores) , with the result that in the identity dimension scale the higher scorers tend to approach identity diffusion, while the lower scorers tend to approach identity achievement. As is genrally said development is also an important factor in promorting identity achievement. I could prove it in my study.

    (3) Delinquents in juvenile classification homes form a minority in the present educational system. The questionnaire items for ordinary students as the subject are not fit for the measurement of delinquents’ pathological experiences. Therefore, we should make the items having other contents, which will be fit for delinquents as our subject.

    (4) Negative identity is generally thought to be a clinical figure of identity diffusion. But as a result of the comparison between the student groups and the delinquent groups, identity dimension of delinquents and their identity status were found near the extremity of identity achievement. I think that most delinquents in juvenile classification homes are of Fukushima’s negative identity type II (antisocial type) , so we should work out a questionnaire of items appropriate to the measurement of juvenile delinquents of negative identity type II.
