It is said that learning Thematic Apperception Technique (TAT) is more difficult than learning Rorschach Technique. One reason may be that unlike Rorschach, the scoring system and analysis procedures in TAT have not been established yet. Another reason may be that the amount of information in TAT is huge compared with that of Rorschach. Thus, the beginner of TAT feels difficulty in learning.

In this paper, in order to make the learning of TAT easier, the author proposes a new framework for the analysis of TAT: the Frame of Information Analysis (FIA). The new framework has two distinguishing features which have some advantage over the others: one is to separate analysis from interpretation, and the other is to clarify the procedure of analysis. The new framework offers the following procedures: arranging the information of protocol according to the objective criteria, summarizing and classifying the information, and extracting various features of the protocol without the help of interpretive hypothesis, using only the summarizing information. Thus, the extracted features of protocol can serve as objective and rational data for interpretation. As an illustration, the author presents in this paper one example of the analysis procedure for a certain criminal's protocol.

The FIA enables us to learn TAT easily, and makes it flexibly applicable to various protocols.
