Cell adhesion force to a scaffold can be changed by applying micro-structure on the scaffold. The authors have measured the adhesion force by peeling a single cell with an AFM cantilever and demonstrated that the adhesion can be reduced by applying micro-structure on the scaffold. In this study, adhesion of tissue cells, single-layered MDCK cells, were measured by applying lateral vibration until the tissue peeled off due to the drag force of the culture media. It was found that the PDMS scaffold with micro-structure of which size is comparable to that of cells can increase the adhesion up to twice of that without structure.
