The objective of this paper is to present the development of a robot wheel for a paddy field. Since the soil of a paddy field is a soft, a wheel often breaks it, and a robot cannot move forward. We have developed a new wheel, which is composed of a set of bar shape lugs, yielding an enough driving force with less breaking of the soil. The force model of the wheel is developed and verified with experiments.

We have developed artificial muscle which has the EHD pump as built-in drive source. And then, in this study, we developed new artificial muscle which combined EHD and EAM. And this artificial muscle has a EAM brake as a positioning device of this artificial muscle. We report the measurement result about the performance of this artificial muscle.

The purpose of this research is optimization of arrangement of robots when 2 of revolute robot do cooperation movement. By the former study, I was to aim at the joint torque of the robot and estimate the size of its output margin, and the method to decide about arrangement of 2 robots was proposed. After introducing the idea into a method above-mentioned, I contrived the method to decide suitable arrangement of robots.

It is difficult that 'A complex motion of a humanoid robot for which the whole body was used dynamically movement', for example both arms moving intensely while involving a rotation and vertical moving of the waist, and the movement of foot of stop motion also included. Because disturbance caused by unstableness of landing of the sole and a bend by mechanical force becomes conspicuous, it's necessary to compensate these sufficiently. This report made a subject the traditional dance as an example of a complex dynamic motion. And development of this stabilization control technique and an inspected result will be reported.

Leader-Following Formation Navigation (LFFN) is one of the control method for mobile robot group. In this method, one leader is capable of autonomous moving robot, which is controlled by a human operator, while multiple followers pass along the trajectory in the same motion to the leader. The followers move along the leader′s path behind the leader after some intervals. In existing method, robot group is stops when the leader arrives at the target point, then the robot in the back stops far away from the target point. It is proposed that meandering formation should solve the problem of putting the robot group in the target area.

A simplified car-sharing system has been developed for an official car or a particular group using. In such condition, low management cost is more important than strictly technical management. In this research, the user′s smart phone is used for car-sharing reservation by accessing the reservation server with 3G mobile wireless. The user′s smart is also used for connecting the car′s key control unit with local wireless. By using the local wireless communication, no mobile communication expenses are incurred as the formal car-sharing system do. Besides, in this new system, no 3G communication protocol is need, which simplified the microcontroller′s task. A personal authentication technic, RSA encryption, is also implied to prevent smart phone forgeries. Finally the developed system and hardware are applied into the micro electric vehicle (EV) and a social car-sharing experiment has proved the practical usefulness.

The novel Shape Adaptive Grinding (SAG) process, which uses diamond abrasives bonded in nickel or resin pellets attached to an elastic tool, has been previously demonstrated in finishing freeform ceramic molding dies with surface roughness below 1 nm Ra. In this paper, a dynamometer was used to characterize grinding forces and the results show that contrary to conventional grinding, in SAG the grinding force increases proportionally to the diamond grit size. The chip thickness was derived statistically, and the grinding mechanism was correlated with previous observations of the ductile to fracture grinding mode transition.
