Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) have been applied in bionic robots, welfare devices, and parallel manipulators, because they possess many advantages over traditional actuators, such as a high power-to-weight ratio, a high power-to-volume ratio, a high degree of safety, and stick-slip-free operation. However PAMs have disadvantages of significant nonlinearity, creep phenomenon, and hysteresis. These provide the low controllability and unfortunately limit the application of PAMs. Thus the precision motion control of PAMs is an important and unsolved problem. This research aims to clarify a practical controller design method to achieve the precision motion control for PAM systems. For precision motion control, a practical controller design procedure is discussed and determined in this paper. The controller structure was decided based on the analysis of general characteristics of PAM systems. The control elements are represented by input-output relationships which were investigated by measured open-loop responses of a linear motion mechanism with a pair of McKibben PAMs. The positioning and the tracking performances are reported and discussed. According to the experimental results, it is found that the proposed controller is able to provide a sub-micrometer order positioning and a precision tracking of the PAM mechanism at low speed.

Non-contact transfer methods are required for glass plates and semiconductor wafers while keeping them clean. In the proposed transfer method, a thin plate was slightly tilted by blowing and sucking air from orifice restrictors and airflow is blown against the lower side of the plate so that the driving force is generated. Two patterns were found experimentally. The plate was continuously carried by shifting the airflow pattern in accordance with the plate position. Slots to supply airflow were arranged with an interval of 15 mm. A stainless steel plate with dimensions of 90 mm x 100 mm x 2 mm and 139 g was transferred at an acceleration of 15 mm/s

Presbycusis′s, hardness-of-hearing older people have a tendency to enlarge volume of television or radio etc. too much. The loud sound cause dispute between presbycusis′s and normal person, so any improvement measures is required. In this study, we propose a device which makes audio sound easy to listen for presbycusis′s without increasing volume as much as possible, using digital signal processing technology. In addition to the digital signal processing unit, two functions were implemented. One is a device which measures an auditory capacity in order to fit output sound of the device to personal aural characteristics. Another is simple operation interface for older people, includes voice navigation and graphic display.Then, the evaluation experiments of the fabricated device were conducted by cooperation of actual presbycusis′s. The improvement of audibility and the usability of the device were evaluated. As a result, the effect of developed device was found in audibility of all subjects.

The engineering plastics are considered as attractive industrial materials now. In particular, the expectation to the polycarbonate is very big. Especially Among them, polycarbonate (PC) is a resin having high resistance against the shock and difficult to break, strength, heat-resistance and permeable excellent plastic. And owing to the lightweight of themselves, they have been used in various applications, such as glass bulletproof glass and the Shinkansen. However, generally the paint-work is difficult because of the superior smoothness of surface. Therefore improvement of wettability on the surface is necessary. By irradiation of short pulsed laser, the wettability on the materials surface tried to improve. A short pulse laser of the nanosecond and the picosecond laser were used for this experiment. As a result, significant improvement was obtained by laser irradiation.
