    Hypothalamic neurosecretory phenomena were histologically observed by means of Gomori's chrome-alum hematoxilin and phloxine method and compared with the function and enlargement of the residual thyroid in partially thyroidectomized rats.
    The secretory activity of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei was temporarily elevated at the ends of 3 and 6 post operative days when the function and enlargement of thyroid were gradually increasing. On these days, the remarkable accumulations of CH positive materials in the nerve fibers leading from the cells of the both hypothalamic nuclei were observed on one hand, and on the other hand the increase of I131 uptake for 24 hrs., enlargement of thyroid and relative increase of T3 and T4 fractions in paper chromatogram were significantly raised in the residual thyroid of partially thyroidectomizcd rats.
    The increase in size of cells in the hypothalamic nuclei was considered most significant in these experiments.

    1. Effects of various steroid hormones on cortisol metabolism were examined in vitro by the screening test, with the supernatant of rat liver homogenate.
    2. Competition was observed in a reduction of Δ4-3 ketone between methyltestosterone and cortisol, metabolism of cortisol being greatly inhibited by methyltestosterone.
    3. Ethinyl-estradiol inhibited cortisol metabolism, showing a marked inhibition in the reduction of Δ4-3 ketone.
    4. Progesterone delayed a disappearance of the infused cortisol in dogs.
    5. It is concluded that metabolic regulation of steroid hormones in the liver constitutes an influential element in the homeostasis of steroid hormones.

    The effect of locally administered prolactin on the respiratory activity was formation. There was a fair parallelism between the trends of change of respiratory activity refering to both wet weight and DNA basis. The oxygen consumption of the gland injected with prolactin was significantly higher than that of the control gland. And it increased nearly linearly with the high dose level of administered prolactin. The carbon dioxide production did not follow the oxygen consumption and resulted in a gradual decrease of R. Q. in the glands injected with prolactin ranging from 1 to 5 i. u. However, in the gland injected with 10 i. u. it increased showing a similar trend to that of oxygen consumption and then resulted in the recovery of R. Q. to the level comparable with the control. The R. Q. was always below unity.

    Castration and adrenalectomy were performed on 34 cases of mammary cancer in whom metastasis took place. The results were as follows:
    1) Out of thc 34 cases, one died from the operation, 2 died during the hospitalization, and 12 showed the objective improvement.
    2) The operation was effective for the patients with the metastasis advanced into skin, the lymph gland and the bone.
    3) The longer the time was before the relapse the more effective was the operation.
    4) The effect was observed in patients with high urinary excretion of estrogens and 17-KS, and in estrogens-dependent cases.
    5) Those who had responded well to the preceding ovariectomy also showed a favorable response to adrenalectomy.
    6) Those on whom adrenalectomy was ineffective showed, in many cases, the urinary excretion of DHA and the release of MTH after the operation.

    1) Electrolytic hypothalamic lesions could produce persistent vaginal estrus in rats.
    2) Ovarian weight of persistent estrus animals was less than the controls; this was attributed to the inhibition and/or lack of corpora lutea formation.
    3) No marked alteration was observed in adrenals and thyroids.
    4) Common location of hypothalamic lesions in persistent estrus animals was between Nucl. supraopticus and the rostral part of median eminence; presumably the lesion in Tractus supraopticohypophyseus produces persistent estrus.

    1) The effect of adrenal cortical hormones on transaminase activities in rat liver and kidney was investigated.
    2) Cortisone induced an increase of GPT and GOT in the liver which was more striking in the case of GPT. Renal enzymes did not change significantly.
    3) Adrenalectomy caused a successive lowering in hepatic GPT and this fall was restored by subsequent cortisone treatment. Hepatic GOT and renal enzymes were not affected consistently.
    4) DCA was without influence on transaminase activities.
    5) Dietary restriction of pyridoxine suppressed and supplementary treatment with pyridoxal phosphate reactivated both GPT and GOT in the liver concomitantly.
    6) Cortisone was found to exert the enhancing effect on hepatic GPT even in pyridoxine dedficiency. On the contrary, pyridoxal phosphate had no stimulating effect on adrenalectomized animals.
    7) The significance of these findings was discussed.

    It was observed that the periodic seasonal variation exists in both biological effects of uroparotin (Serum Ca-reduction effect and circulating leucocytes reaction); the activities occurred only in summer and disappeared completely in winter. The Urp. extracted from winter urine, (β-Urp.), is an essentially inactive substance and even when the inactive material was purified with the same method as used in the preparation of active material, the appearance of activity was not observed. However, it was found that β-Urp. becomes active after incubation at 37°C, the most suitable condition for this incubation being pH 5.0, 24-48 hrs. and 37°C. This activation seemed to occur without an activator, because, even with the purified β-Urp., the result was the same as β-crude-Urp. From these observations, it may be concluded that β-Urp. is excreted into urine in the form of an inactive type.

    The effect of TP on the growth of intact and thyroidectomized rats was essentially similar to that of MAD, i. e., the growth of male rats was never accelerated, and sometimes depressed, whereas the growth of females was always stimulated. This effect of TP, however, was smaller than MAD, in spite of its much stronger androgenic action.
