The present communication deals with the studies on the chemocorticoid in the goat urine and the entity of substance positive to diphenylamine reaction in the neutral lipid-soluble fraction. A colorimetric assay method for the urinary corticoid using diphenylamine reagents has been proposed.

The topography and anatomy of a neurosecretory system in the eel, Anguilla japonica, to which a name preoptico-subcommissural neurosecretory system is proposed, being composed of some of the large nerve cells of the preoptic nucleus, the so-called Reissner's fiber and the subcommissural organ, are described. It is morphologically demonstrated that the Reissner's fiber represents significant union of thick axons arising from the pars magnocellularis of the preoptic nucleus, along which neurosecretory material is traceable posteriorly and dorsally as far up as to the subcommissural organ at the base of the epiphyseal stalk. The organ, being incorporated in the neurosecretory system concerned, is deduced to be of functional significance as a storage-release center.

    1. In vitro effects of thyroxine upon the succinic oxidase system as a whole together upon significant components of the system in the whole liver homogenate of the mouse were examined with wide range of concentration of the hormone.
    2. It was learned that thyroxine exerted inhibitory effect upon the succinic oxidase system as a whole under the presence of cytochrome c. On the contrary, succinic dehydrogenase activity, which was measured by means of Warburg manometer in the presence of KCN and methylen blue, was augmented by the hormone.
    3. Cytochrome oxidase activity when observed manometrically on ascorbate employed as substrate in the presence of cytochrome c was activated by the hormone.
    4. Effect of thyroxine is deduced to be inhibitory upon the succinic cyto chrome c reductase activity, though the hormone was observed to activate the succinic dehydrogenase activity.
    5. On the basis of the present study, inhibitory effect of the hormone observed with the over-all reaction of succinate oxidation in mouse whole liver homogenate is deduced to be due to hormonic inhibition of succinic cytochrome c reductase activity.

The problem of insulin hypersensitivity in hypophysectomized dogs was studied in comparison with normal dogs. The results are as follows:
    (1) The insulin hypersensitivity of hypophysectomized dogs is a result of decreased insulin threshold values and hypoglycemic unresponsiveness.
    (2) The rate of fall of blood glucose values after the injection of insulin in hypophysectomized dogs is less than that of normal dogs.
    (3) The characteristic changes in insulin hypersensitivity of hypophysectomized dogs are discussed in detail.

Effect of salivary gland-ectomy on the proliferative response of proximal epiphyseal cartilage of the tibia of hypophysectomized rat to the growth hormone was investigated using young adult male rats of 60days of age. Changes of the cells in the basophilic and vesicular zones, the decrease in the width of the cartilage plate and the reduction of osteogenesis in the tibia of the hypophysectomized animal showed a tendency of recovery to normal states following growth hormone replacement. Those morphological features in both hypophysectomized and salivary gland-ectomized animals did hardly regain their normalities as the result of growth hormone administration. Nevertheless, it was learned that the affected features in question, excepting the suffered osteogenesis, were in significant measure brought to recovery by injection of the preparation of salivary-gland hormone, Parotin.

The adrenalectomy of the rabbit is done one side after the other at eight days interval, and its effects on the dentine formation and growth, the amounts of serum calcium and total protein are observed with reference to the vital staining, and the following results are obtained.
The effect of adrenalectomy, observed both qualitatively and quantitatively, is that the calcification of dentine is retarded to some extent by unilateral adrenalectomy, and remarkably by bilateral one, and the amounts of serum calcium and total protein decrease remarkably after adrenalectomy, and return to the normal level gradually.
As the cause of these effects, the cortical hormone is considered as important as the medullary hornione, which has been considered effective till now.
