    The purpose of this investigation was to clarify the present status of children with special educational needs with regard to physical education classes in elementary schools. This survey was conducted using a questionnaire that was administered to teachers in elementary schools in one of the prefectures in the Kanto area. The contents of the questionnaire were based on an enforcement system, the style and stage of inclusive physical educational classes, and consciousness about adapted physical education and adapted sport.
    As a result, it was established that all the teachers assumed that physical education was important for children with special educational needs. The physical education class and the school sports festival were conducted using the inclusive pattern in the standard class. It was thought that a merit of the inclusive physical education class was that it provided an understanding of others. However, the strategy adopted for teaching and the evaluation methods for children with special educational needs differed among the teachers in charge of classes for handicapped children and other teachers. Teachers recognized the need for adapted physical education and adapted sport, and felt that the present conditions tended to be insufficient in terms of information and training.
    It was believed that both the teaching methods for children with special educational needs and specialty of physical education were necessary to express the adapted physical education.

    The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a physical education lesson performed by using digital teaching materials and digital portfolios in an elementary school. This study discussed a lesson of vaulting box exercise which took place 8 hours in November, 2005. The subjects were 37 fourth graders and were taught by one male teacher with 13-year teaching experience. In this lesson, the digital teaching materials developed in advance were applied in order that they could be used at any time according to each child's skill. Moreover, digital portfolios were utilized in order that children could do both self and mutual evaluation of his/her improvement of the learning subject and motor skills. Their skill levels, their perceived motor competence score, the actual state of using the digital teaching materials and children's feelings of effectiveness of using them were measured before and after the unit. And, their formative evaluation scores and their feelings of effectiveness of using the digital portfolios were measured during the unit. The results were as follows:
    1. The motor skills of all the children improved notably: they came to be able to perform forward roll on the vaulting box with three or more stairs after the unit.
    2. The children's formative evaluation scores were highly maintained through the unit.
    3. The actual state of using the digital teaching materials and the changing process of effectiveness of using them through the unit became clear.
    4. The feelings of effectiveness of using the digital portfolios improved significantly after the unit.
    5. The perceived motor competence scores improved significantly after the unit.

    Comprehensive study was programmed on the subject of time and velocity to create a new relay race game different from the one which was made on the basis of a footrace game. This paper examined whether the programme aroused interests of children in the sixth year in elementary school in terms of their understanding toward the problem they had.
    The results obtained were as follows:
    1) The programme held appeal for the children and deepened their understanding.
    2) The validity of our principle to draw up the programme was recognized.
    3) To identify the experience of others with that of oneself at the stage of exchanging the outcome of problem solving, sharing the process to form the problem through experiences common to many children, worked effectively and was important to deepen understandings.
    4) It was suggested that sharing the problem at the stage of forming problem caused feelings over reliance and gratitude to others and produced a fellow feeling.
