The purpose of this study is to develop and assessment of a lesson model for Olympic learning in
social studies that incorporates the results of Olympic studies. The results of this research can be
summarized in the following four points.
First, the study organizes the learning content for the formation of scientific social awareness based on the results of Olympic research since the 2000s.
Second, based on the first result, we present the viewpoint of lesson design for social studies Olympic learning that contributes to improving the issues. This was done by analyzing the characteristics and issues of elementary social studies textbooks that comply with the curriculum guidelines.
Third, based on the second achievement, we have developed a lesson model for the 6th grade in Elementary School unit “Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and us”.
Fourth, the new teaching model was delivered in practice to clarify its effectiveness.
