Preventive strategy was discussed of accidents due to human errors. Accidents can be classified roughly into two categories: labor accidents and facility accidents. The strategy of preventing them should be different for each other. Labor accidents due to intentional unsafe acts can be eliminated by improving safety consciousness. For improving safety consciousness, small group safety activities to which all of working personnel willingly participate, could be effective. But, unintentional human errors can not be beaten only by safety awareness. Multilateral measures should be necessary. Relatively crucial issue is systematic checking system including self checking, double checking and confirmation from QA view points. As a most important one, how to prevent organizational accidents was discussed. A key issue would be the management to encourage working personnel executing safety relating activities. At last, assertion was denoted that a systematic approach should be necessary to reduce total accidents because above mentioned measures would not be independent but relating each other.

The features of the SOI CMOS structures and devices are summarized. Floating body effects, which are the most important phenomena to be understood in order to design SOI devices, are described in detail. Short channel effects and hot carrier reliability in thin-film SOI MOSFETs, which are also important issues in MOS devices, are described. In these issues, novel phenomena peculiar to thin-film SOI devices are shown, and their mechanisms are explained. Scaling issue of SOI CMOS devices and their future prospect are also given.
