As electronic parts become degraded, corrosion appears earlier than the abnormalities in the input-and-output characteristic. So we try detecting corrosion on aluminum pattern of IC in its picture and estimating how much life of IC has been consumed from the amount of corrosion. In this paper, we report the developed methodology and an example which we have studied about possibility of degradation(life)diagnosis on IC based on corrosion detection.

Some kinds of stochastic maintenance problems with minimal repair have been discussed for a long time in the research field of mathematical reliability theory. Most of models proposed have focused on determining the optimal replacement time or the optimal number of minimal repairs before replacement which minimizes any relevant cost function, under the condition that the system lifetime distribution is known. In this paper, we propose statistical solution methods for a typical periodic maintenance problem with minimal repair. In particular, two kinds of nonparametric procedures to estimate the optimal maintenance policy are described when a complete sample data for the system lifetime is given. Finally, asymptotic properties of the estimator are examined through numerical examples.

To develop appropriate evaluation methods and improve reliability, it is very important to identify failure mechanism accurately. In this thesis, a case study is reported where FTA is employed for failure analysis of a resin sealed thermistor sensor. By introducing the design of experiments, failure physics, and making efficient use of existing data collected in the field and process in the course of analysis, the failure mechanism was identified efficiently and accurately, successfully developing a new evaluation method and improving reliability.
