The progress of IT has given big convenience to the people, but the accidents that produce big effect on the citizen are caused. In this paper, focusing the failures in communications network supporting information society, we investigate some accident information that we can obtain from the newspapers. First, we extract the particular factors that have influence in the selection as the news from many accidents, from present condition analysis. We also show how the newspapers report the accidents whose social damage is large for large scale and whose private damage is large in spite of small scale. Next, we analyze the coverage and the accuracy of the news on the significant accidents in communications network provided by Telecommunications Business Law. As the result, we show the accuracy of the contents is relatively reliable, but the coverage is insufficient even if, limiting to the significant accidents. Lastly, we propose some improvements for more effective use of newspaper reports.
