This paper presents the expert system for fault diagnosis of processes using fault tree analysis in the presence of false information of certain sensors. The fault propagation in the process is modeled by causal relationships from the fault tree and its minimal cut sets. The measurement patterns, which are obtained from the fault propagation model, are stDred in the knowledge base for the fault diagnosis. The expert system can identify component failures and disturbances which can lead to process malfunctions with false information of sensors by matching the pattem of process data from plant with the pattem of stored data in the computers. From unavailabilities of components and sensors, the estimated rates are provided for sequellce checking in diagnosis. We show advantages of the method by applying the diagnostic system to a reactor control and protection system.
