    The paper is the summary of the investigation studies that author examined for about twenty years in Uranouchi bay where fish culture has been carried out. In the paper environmental characteristics and phenomenon are explained, such as the season of stratification and convection, the intrusion caused by density difference of water between inside of bay and outside of bay, internal tidal wave and estuarine circulation. Finally both environment al improvement methods such as tide dam and enhancing estuarine circulation are proposed.

    Two numerical models of water quality and egg/larva drift are prescribed. The fomer model can predict the distribution of velocity, Water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen in a nursery pond for flounders, Paralichthys olivaceus. This model will be a valuable tool for designing pond configuration and deciding reasonable inflow rate in comection with water quality. The latter model is based on Euler-Lagrangian method to take into consideration of spontaneous vertical movement of pelagic eggs and larvae of brown sole, Pleurronectes herzensteini. This model reveals the short-term wind fluctuation have a great effect on the transport and retention rate from the spawing to the nursery grounds in Sea of Japan and the vertical migration prevents the larvae from the dispersion to the offshore.

    It is a great honor for the author to receive the award from the Japanese society of fisheries engineering. This prize has been given to development of man-made sea-mountains made by fly ash concrete operated by the Marino Forum 21.The author had already showed technical detail on Fisheries Engineering Vol. 36, No. 1. So, the author avoids duplication in this paper, and shows a background of this project for young engineer. It has been fifteen years since the project had been press released in 1984 as shown in Table-1. And the project is running smoothly now. From now on the author intend to concentrate all his strength so that this project comes as business.

    通水性を持った有孔の船首状カバーが水産施設の構成要素になりうるものと考え,同カバーの船首角度と開口部の大きさを変化させたときの流水抵抗を調べた。縦33cm,横20cm,厚さ2mmの鉄板を2枚,ちょうつがいで船首状に接合させて模型を作製した。船首角度すなわち展開角度を, 60度から180度まで30度ずつ5段階に変化させた。ドリル直径を順次変化させて(4.0mm-10.0mm)鉄板に孔を開け,孔の総面積と元の板の面積との比を開口比とした。孔を開けない状態の0%から37.2%まで,開口比を8段階に変化させた。開口比ごとに展開角度を変化させた模型を,大型回流水槽中に設置し,流水抵抗を測定した。船首状有孔板においても一般物体と同様にニュートンの抵抗則が確認できた。測定値より各開口比における展開角度ごとの抵抗係数を得た。開口比の増加に対応して,流水抵抗の増減があることも示した。特に,展開角60度や90度の場合には,開口比15-20%で孔を開けない場合の抵抗の1割余の増加であった。しかし,この抵抗の増減の要因については,今後の検討を要する。

    The drilling work of the ear-hanging scallop culture (Patinopecten yessonsis, Jay) makes many mechanical injuries of the mantle. In order to reveal the relationships between the drilling positions and the mechanical injuries, the investigation of the mantle shape at the workshop and the drilling test to the eight positions on the ear part of juvenile scallop (shell hight : 62 -76mm) was conducted. And then the scar on the mantle was exanined by dissecting the sample shells. The results have been shown as the following: 1) Most of the scallops was expanding the mantle to the drilling area 2) the scars were divided into four types of mechanical injury 3) the frequency of the injury-types largely differed depending on the drilling positions.

    This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on scour around rectangular columns exposed to waves. The equilibrium scour depth normalized by the rectangular column width (dsE/B) may be depend on the following nondimensional parameters : dsE/B=f (E/B, D/B, KC, U/uc) in which E and D is thickness and height of rectangular column respectively, KC is Keulegan Carpenter number based on E, U is half amplitude velocity at bottom, uc is critical fluid velocity of sand bed. Based on the experimental results, the qualitative estimation of dsE/B was established in two different categories : the clear-water scour and the live-bed scour. The equilibrium scour depth dsE was found to increase with decreasing the thickness of rectangular.

    ディファレンシャルGPSは利用者のGPSの位置の精度を向上させる効果的な手法で,ディファレンシャルGPS局のサービスエリア内であれば,利用者の位置の精度は高い。しかし,沿岸を航行する船舶や沖合で操業する漁船は常にディファレンシャルGPS局のサービスエリア内にいるとは限らず,サービスエリア外の測位精度も船舶関係者にとって把握しておくべき要素の一つである。今回,下関において我が国と韓国のDGPS局のビーコンを受信し,サービスエリア内とサービスエリア外について,それぞれの測位状況と測位精度を比較検討した。結果は次のように要約される。 1)サービスエリア内の測位では,全実験ともほぼ100%の測得率であったが,サービスエリア外の測位では測得率が一定でなく, 89-100%であった。 2)利用したDGPS局によって,それぞれの平均位置は異なった。 3)基線長と位置誤差の分布との関係は次式で近似できた。 Y=0. 005Ⅹ+4. 68 (110≦Ⅹ≦270) ただし, y:26(m) X:基線長(km) 4)ディファレンシャルGPS測位であっても,高度データの信頼性は薄いと考えられた。 5)夜間の測位誤差の変動幅は大きかった。

    It is essential to understand the actual characteristics of waves in the sea for the safety and sea keeping quality of fishing boats during operation. From this point of view, We proposed a simple method to forecast wind waves generated on water current. In this paper we discussed the accuracy of this method by using data measured in Funka bay. The results showed that the forecasted wave height agreed well with observed height. However, the forecasted value may be potentially affected by the occurrence of swell and by the fetch and therefore these parameters should be taken into consideration in future attempts to improve the accuracy of wave height forecasting.

    Algae are important as food resources for abalone and sea urchins・ Artificial structures have been placed so as to keep drift algae or kelp food supplies in the abalone and sea urchin fishing grounds of Northem Japan, which were frequently subject to a lack of food. To examine the capability of framed structures to keep algae, field observations were carried out using an underwater video system. Two types of structures were tested : a 12m long, 30cm high iron-bar fence and 1.5m high rectangular cages consisting of concrete frames and gratings. The fence placed on a relatively flat bottom could catch drift kelp, amounting to about lkg wet wt. per m length. The blocked drift algae, however, did not remain several days because they could pass over the fence even at the significant velocity amplitude of wave-induced oscillatory flows of < 8cm/s. The rectangular cages failed to hold entire plants or blades of kelp Eisenia bicyclis when the significant velocity amplitude exceeded 22 to 32cm/s. Based on the observation results, a model was developed for describing a stochastic process of flushing algae out of the cage by random waves.

    Environmental problems have become a very important conditions in recent years. Due to this, the issue of maritime waste treatment control has been taken up by concerned parties. The discharge of waste from a maritime vessel is permitted with certain attached conditions. However, the worldwide trend conceming maritime waste treatment has increased to the point where the regulations conceming this are similar in strength to those relating to waste treatment on land. The authors investigated the quantity, content and the treatment method during an extended voyage of the Nagasaki University training ship, Kakuyo-maru. As a result of this research, the total of the non-bumable waste amounted to 367kg (aluminium cans : 52kg, steel cans : 36kg, bottles : 279kg) during a 55 day voyage. In the future, from the viewpoint of the prevention of air pollution and dioxin discharge it will be up to the fishing industry to halt the incineration of plastics and reduce the quantity of shipboard waste.

    The New Nagasaki Fishing Port has been completed up to the stage when it can work as a fishing port. We studied the projected ship traffic after 8 years from the opening of the port. We made the following conclusions conceming traffic congestion : 1. The number of fishing boats using the New Nagasaki fishing port will decrease. Futhermore, the largesized ships will make less than 10 % of the traffic. 2. Construction of new offshore breakwater allows to increase number of small-sized fishing boats passing inroute C. 3. The breakwater affects the visibility for ships arriving from the west entrance. So, more careful navigation is requested.
