    In general tele-operation, an operator watches a video captured by a remote camera to perceive the scene of the target operating space. However, typical monocular video diminishes the perceptivity and comfort of its operator because of the lack of a sense of depth. To provide a sense of depth, a binocular stereoscopic camera and 3D display are employed for a tele-operation system. In general, a stereoscopic camera must be adjusted for parallax, especially for near-field shooting. Therefore, a control strategy for the parallax of a binocular stereoscopic vision system is investigated. One of the serious issues for 3D displays is the vergence-accommodation conflict. Therefore, the proposed system controls its vergence angle to resolve the conflict for an object watched by an operator. To evaluate the perceptivity of the system, sensory evaluations were conducted using the proposed stereoscopic system that consists of a 3D display and pan-tilt-vergence (PTV) controllable binocular stereoscopic camera. When the binocular parallax was controlled as proposed, the task completion time was shortened, and the correctness of a 2D-3D distinction test was improved. These results verified that the proposed system improves the perceptivity of the remote space, especially for near-field operation.

    This paper presents a new technology in vibration suppression control that is based on the acceleration sensor's feedback. Earlier, a technology for vibration suppression control had been proposed for a controlled object with resonance and anti-resonance frequencies, but this cannot be applied to a controlled object when the anti-resonance frequency does not appear. For example, there are cases when a Cartesian coordinate robot arm is elastically deformed, and the load it holds vibrates strongly. This is why a new vibration suppression control technology based on the acceleration sensor's feedback is needed. For the versatility in control devices, it is necessary to calculate the control parameters automatically and simplify the control algorithms. Mathematical expressions for the gain are also important. The feedback gain parameters can be calculated using the coefficient diagram method (CDM), but we could not find any applications using CDM applying to the acceleration sensor's feedback. We derived the feedback gain parameters using CDM, and also derived an effective approximate expression for the actual position control device. We confirmed the validity of the derived expression with experiments.

    This paper deals with the development of a 600V high-voltage half-bridge gate driver IC used to drive large-current IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) inverters such as those used in HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles). In order to improve the robustness of a short-circuit operation, a new short-circuit protection circuit is proposed. Furthermore, a reduction in the short-circuit current is observed. Thus, the developed high-voltage IC can drive almost all types of IGBT modules up to 400A/600V.

    The load characteristics of an induction motor made of an SMC core are presented. The SMC stator core is divided into 48 parts in order to facilitate press molding and to obtain distributed windings. Three dimensional shaped core is used to increase the output power while maintaining the same outer size of the motor. The experimental load characteristics show that the performance of the induction motor made of SMC is almost the same as that of the conventional laminated induction motor.

    This paper proposes new three-phase current control methods for ac motor drives, which detect only a single phase current out of three-phase currents. The proposed methods first detect one of three-phase currents, then synthesize three-phase or two-phase quasi-current-error in a static manner using the detected single phase current and the current command in the dq rotating reference frame, process the multiphase quasi-current-error by using a dedicated current controller, and finally produce a three-phase voltage command. The three-phase quasi-current-error, the two-phase quasi-current-error in the stationary reference frame, and the two-phase quasi-current-error in the rotating reference frame are processed by a 3×3 “D-controller”, 2×2 “D-controller”, and 2×2 standard current controller, respectively. Although the three multiphase quasi-current-errors and three associated current controllers differ from each other, the same voltage commands are produced. This paper presents the principles and detailed characteristic analyses of the proposed methods and validates them by extensive simulations.

    This paper deals with a pulse width modulated (PWM) current source converter with single-phase input and three-phase output, and proposes control strategies for it. The converter circuit is a three-phase bridge circuit with three legs. The three-phase PWM method is used to obtain sinusoidal input and output. The single-phase-to-three-phase conversion can be achieved by using the phase-shifted PWM pattern. Moreover, to obtain a balanced three-phase output, the phase-angle control strategies of two PWM patterns are employed. The angle is determined with the feedback of the positive phase sequence component of the output currents. The paper describes in detail the circuit operation and the control method for balanced sinusoidal output. The RL static loads are used as three-phase loads to examine the performance of the converter. The experimental results prove that the three-leg converter with single-phase input can generate balanced three-phase output and includes sinusoidal waves in the input/output sides.
