Based on the survey results of teachers, this study analyzes, from the perspectives of fostering a
view of home economics subjects, subject contents and teaching methods, and guaranty of qualities and
abilities, and clarifies the actual state of guidance related to qualities and abilities. The research method is
a questionnaire survey targeting teachers in charge of the Home Economics Education Law for training
home economics teachers at 49 national university corporations.
The results are as follows:
1. The attributes of the respondents to the questionnaire survey which was distributed to 49 subjects
with 44 returns (valid response rate of 89.8%) were as follows: on average they were 54.1 years of
age, average teaching history of 19.2 years, and 59.1% graduated from the Faculty of Education.
Approximately 40.9% were graduated from other undergraduate departments.
2. Regarding the actual situation of guidance related to the qualities and abilities of home economics
teachers, the items of basic qualities as home economics teachers tended to show higher scores. On
the other hand, the scores were lower for understanding the values and relationships of the academic
fields that were the background of home economics education, devising lessons linked to social
resources that support learning, and teaching using ICT.
3. Many people think of the subject as a subject that comprehensively and practically teaches about
human life centered on family life, and the same tendency was seen between the faculties and among
age groups.
4. While there was a common view of learning, there was a difference in the perception of learning content
that is emphasized in home economics between the faculties and among age groups.
