JOURNAL OPEN ACCESSWhile the reorganization of the subject is the talk of educators, the author 785 teachers in elementary school on views and reratities of home economics education during June to September 1996. The results were as follows. 1. Both home economics major and non-major teachers put values on educational meaning. Only few opinion with unnecessity of the subuject under school days system, were existed. And both teachers taught in connections with other unnecessity of the subuject under 5 school days system, were existed. And both teachers taught in connections with other subjects, and urged various contents, such as Environmental Education, Consumer Education, and Family Relation Education in coming contents. 2. There was a wide gap between the major and non-major in teaching contents and methods. JOURNAL OPEN ACCESSThe authors assumed that voluntary services for the mentally handicapped cultivated the spirit of welfare, and tried to encourage male high school students to volunteer in Home Economics class. The results were as follows: 1) Practicing voluntary services improved students' interest in voluntary services. Especially, personal voluntary services improved their interest. 2) The students who took a great interest in voluntary services tended to cultivate well the spirit of welfare. 3) Meeting the mentally handicapped gave the students who had little interest in voluntary services an opportunity to arouse interest in participation in welfare work. 4) Meeting the mentally handicapped gave the students an opportunity to understand the mentally handicapped and to recognize the respect for human rights and to cultivate the spirit of welfare.View full abstractDownload PDF (1240K) -

JOURNAL OPEN ACCESSWith regard to food education, it is necessary to consider all aspects including production, distribution, consumption, waste and dietary culture. In this paper the authors examined the contents of industrials arts and home economics education in junior high school. As the results, the authors found the relationship between the cultivation area and the food area was not described. The authors therefore proposed the fundamental items for a total education, from-cultivation to consumption, using spinach, a typical green and yellow vegetable, as an example. Headings of the them are 1) the present state of dietary life and importance of vegetable intake, 2) the importance of green and yellow vegetable intake, 3) plant growth, constituents and preparation of spinach, 4) quality of food and plant growing conditions, 5) preservation and changes of constituents before use, 6) distribution routes and consumer labeling-information, and 7) Japanese dietary culture and improvement of dietary life of pupils.View full abstractDownload PDF (1050K) -

Students observe behavior of children with the Quick Time movie. 2. Teachers are able to reconstruct the material. 3. Students enjoy learning by using computer. 4. JOURNAL OPEN ACCESSWe investigated the effectiveness of the CAI teaching aid by a trial test given to university students. The results are as follows: 1. Over 70 % of both male and female students understood each picture of the CAI aid. 2. Experience of child development education, playing with children, interest in children and the study of child development hardly influenced in understanding pictures of the CAI teaching aid. 3. Pictures concerning emotional and social development made a good impression on students. 4. Students approved the effectiveness of the CAI aid. 5.
