JOURNAL FREE ACCESSNowaday, it is not clear how the energy obtained from the oxidative processes is coupling with the excitation of nerve, but if the stimulants may affect on the step forming the energy, the above aspect may be one of the recognizable things.
SUMMARY
1. The results indicating that γ-aminobutyrate may possibly be introduced into the TCA cycle via the transamination and associated oxidation were obtained.
2. The details of the transamination and associated oxidation of α-ketoglutarate andγ-aminobutyrate were observed.
3. An effect of β-hydroxy-γ-aminobutyrate on the transamination and associated oxidation of α-ketoglutarate and γ-aminobutyrate was studied.
4. The EEG of rabbit was recorded under the influence of β-hydroxy-γ-aminobutyrate administration.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. The effects on the membrane activities of the toad sartorius muscle of veratrine, aconitine, veriloid, calcium-free solution, guanidine, TEA, quinine, caffeine, excess of K+ ion, procaine and CuO+ ion were investigated with an intracellular recording electrode.
2. Veratrine produced repetitive muscle spikes when single shock stimulation was applied either to the nerve or muscle.
Veriloid, aconitine and calcium-free solution have been observed to produce such repetitive responses.
Guanidine produced repetitive muscle spikes only if a motor nerve volley was applied.
3. Veratrine, aconitine, veriloid, guanidine, quinine, TEA and procaine did not alter the resting potential. Excess of K+ ion, caffeine and CuO+ ion produced a marked fall in the resting potential.
4. Veratrine, aconitine, TEA and guanidine increased the size of the e.p.p. in the low-sodium muscle, whereas caffeine, quinine, veriloid and CuO+ ion decreased it. Procaine was ineffective or only slightly diminished the size.View full abstractDownload PDF (6557K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe inhibitory effect of citrinin, one of the quinoid compounds, on the respiration and succinic dehydrogenase activity of the kidney, liver and brain tissue of normal rats, and the depression of the respiration and succinic dehydrogenase activity of the kidney tissue, but no effect on the respiration of brain tissue in the poisoned rats were investigated. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSDHK produces a definite fall of blood pressure under morphine-urethane anesthesia but a transient elevation under thiopental-barbital anesthesia in the dog. In the latter case it is presumed that the reaction may be due to the potentiation of its peripheral pressor action by barbiturate.
The following conclusions are reached by the results of four groups of experiments i.e. at normotensive or hypotensive state in the intact and spinal cat. The hypotensive action of DHK is produced by means of alive brain and its intact efferent pathways which may contain ganglion and cholinergic fibers. On the other hand, the epinephrine-reversal induced by DHK can be demonstrated regardless of the brain centers and of its efferent pathways as long as arterial blood pressure is maintained at a sufficiently high level.View full abstractDownload PDF (715K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSIt has been observed that the vasodepressor action of Iso was reversed to vasopression by ergotamine in cats under thiopental-barbital anesthesia, but no reversal was found under urethan g anesthesia, in spite of the finding that the pressor action of Epi was depressed or reversed. Consequently, barbiturates seem to be activating agents in producing the Iso-reversal.
When an isolated dog's hind leg was perfused artificially with the heparinized whole blood, the vasodilator action ot Iso could not be modified by ergotamine. Therefore, factors responsible for the reversal cannot be found in peripheral vascular beds.View full abstractDownload PDF (450K)
