TaC-WC solid solutions containing up to 40 mol% WC were prepared by heating single carbide mixtures in vacuum. And the properties of sintered specimens of these solid solutions and single carbides were studied. The results obtained are as follows.
    1) When the specimens were treated above 1800°C, decarburization of specimens increased slightly. But it was suppressed by packing specimens with carbon black. Thus, it was possible to prepare solid solutions containing 95.1-98.6% carbon of theoretical value.
    2) Upon furnace cooling of specimens containing more than 3lmol% WC, precipitation of finely dispersed WC was observed. It was, however, prevented completely by rapid cooling at the rate of 500-650°C/min even in specimen containing 40mol% WC.
    3) Specimens containing 10, 20, 30 and 40mol% of WC were one-phased above 1580, 1780, 1960 and 2200°C respectively.
    4) Transverse rupture strength, hardness, electrical resistivity and coefficient of thermal expansion of solid solutions were found to increase with increasing WC content.
Hot hardness of solid solutions above 600°C showed better resistivity against softening than single carbides.
    5) The result of oxidation in still air at 700°C showed that weight gain increased slightly with increasing WC content, but in specimen containing l0mol% of WC, crumbling of scale checked the oxidation resistance markedly.

This report covers the discussions on the differences of various phenomena between the bronze- and copper-infiltrating into iron skeletons of which green density is 6.4g/cm3 (porosity: about 19%). The results obtained are as follows:
    1) On the bronze-infiltrated compact: The bronze-infiltrant penetrated into iron skeleton in the wide range of temperature from the liquid-appearing temperature of 11.4% tin bronze (about 830°C) to the melting point of copper (1083°C). As a result, on the bronze-infiltrated surface of the compact were seen considerable pitting vestiques, moreover the compact bends in the form that its infiltrating surface was towards the outside. But it was found that these two faults came to he diminishable with adoption of the following basic heating operations; that is "high rate heating and long time keeping, " and particularly, long time keeping operation in the above increased the mechanical strength of the compact greatly.
    2) On the copper-infiltrated compact: The copper-infiltrant penetrated into iron skeleton in a few minutes at temperature above the melting point of copper (1083°C). Consequently, the pitting and bending phenomena of the compact were not seen so much as in the bronze-infiltrated compact. But on the other hand, the mechanical strength of the compact increased a little in the long keeping stage, and from this result, the compact had to be sintered enough at low temperature range below the melting point of copper. That is, it seemed that the basical operations of the copper-infiltrating process were "low rate heating and short time keeping."

In the present study, authors examined the sintering characeteristics of Pd added tungsten powders, mechanical properties and some properties relating to electrical contact of W-Pd sintered compacts.
    The results were as follows.
    (1) In the case of 0.5% Pd addition and lhr sintering, dense sintered compacts were obtained above 1000°C sintering temperature. The effects of Pd addition on activated sintering of tungsten were weak to those of Ni-P alloy addition.
    (2) Vicker hardness number of W-Pd (Pd 1-5%) sintered compacts showed a maximum of 550 at 1000°C sintering temperature. The transvers rupture strength of Pd added tungsten sintered compacts were stronger than that of Ni-P alloy addition.
    (3) As axesuet of electrical, contact test, the amounts of wear of tungsten sintered compact by Pd addition up to 1% were similar to those of pure tungsten contact, the transfer phenomenon being not observed.

The effects of powder processing conditions on the sintering of Ni.Zn ferrite have been . presented. The constituent oxide mixtures were calcined at temperatures between. 700 and. 1400°C, and then subjected to ball-milling up to 55 hours. Shrinkage, fired density and some magnetic properties were studied at different firing temperatures. It is shown that the. sintering behaviors, and hence the properties of sintered products could be interpreted adequately by powder parameters such as aggregation state of primary particle, size and its distribution. It is shown also that the effect of ball-milling is less significant unless the oxide mixtures are calcined above the recrystallization temperature.
