    In order to prepare titanium carbide powders of high purity and fine grain size, purification of crude titanium carbide powder containing free carbon or sometimes oxygen was examined. The mixture of crude titanium carbide powder prepared by vacuum carburizing of TiO2 and Ca metal tips (sometimes CaCl2 was used as flux) was charged in an iron crucible and heated to 950-1000°C in an argon atmosphere. Then the reaction product which was cooled to room temperature was washed in water and hydrochloric acid.
    By this treatment, free carbon contained in crude titanium carbide was almost completely removed even free carbon content in crude titanium carbide was as high as 10%. Ca was not detected by chemical analysis in the purified product, and high purity titanium carbide powder was obtained from highly carburized crude titanium carbide powder. But, in the case of Ca treatment of low-carburized powder (low combined carbon and high oxygen content), although oxygen decreased and combined carbon increased, these decreasing and increasing rates were both considerably low.
    Obvious surlace oxidation of flu powder was detected by holding wet powder cake in a hot air bath at 120°C. Vacuum dring was effective for prevention the surface oxidation. "Flushing" seemed to also be effective for this purpose.

    The present work was done to determine whether the preferred orientation in hot-pressed alumina was actually rearranged by high temperature creep with a direction parallel or perpendicular to hotpressing direction and also the creep rate was dominated by a creep direction concerned with the preferred orientation.
    After crept, it was found that c-axes of alumina crystals which are observed to be parallel to hot-pressing direction in sintering are changed to be parallel to creep direction when the direction is set to be perpendicular to the pressing direction, although the preferred orientation is not changed by creep and tended to be strong itself in creep with the direction parallel to hot-pressing. These behavior of preferred orientation by creep may be mainly associated with grain rotations caused by grain-boundary sliding.
    From a relationship between compressive stress and creep rate as a function of creep direction, it is evident that the creep deformation is accelerated in the case of creep with a direction perpendicular to hot-pressing direction because of grain rotations.

    It has been known that Fe-W-Cr-Mo alloy produced by the casting method is peculiarly suitable for a semi-hard magnetic material than for a hard magnetic material.
    This paper deals with the manufacturing process of the alloy by powder metallurgy, which has not yet been satisfactorily tried, and the effect of the processing parameters on the magnetic properties, micro Vicker's hardness, and microstructure. The best magnetic properties were 4πIIK 13, 800 G, 4πIr 7, 000 G, BHc 75 Oe for Fe-12.6W-8.4Cr-2.0Mo alloy and 4πIIK 10, 000 G, 4πIr 6, 400 G, BHC 170 Oe for Fe-18 W-12Cr-3Mo alloy. From the experimental results, it was confirmed that this alloy may be a precipitation hardening material.

    This paper deals with the effect of cobalt additions on the magnetic properties of Fe-W-Cr-Mo system alloy. The specimens were prepared by the powder metallurgical method.
    The alloy with the additions of 15% cobalt, in which iron was substituted by cobalt, shows the best magnetic property of (B-H) max-1.25 MG-0e. when fired at 1, 375°C for 3 hrs and successively aged at 650°C for 5 hrs after sintered at 1, 400°C for 4 hr.
    The precipitation of component element was observed in the electron microscopic structure.
