This paper reviews plasma physics related to laser implosions, where fluid dynamics, energy transport and laser-plasma interactions are discussed. The requirements on the compressed D-T plasma parameters lead to the conditions which are imposed on the accelerated shell velocity, the spherical uniformity, the acceleration pressure, the absorbed laser intensity and the preheating by high energy electrons and X rays. The crucial physical processes in those items are described in detail, which are the laser ablation, the heat flux limitation, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, the classical and anomalous laser absorption, the stimulated laser scatterings and so on.

This report describes the newest technology for large DC pow er interruption of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines and thermonuclear fusion equipment power supply system. The main switching elements of DC interrupters are constructed by the most judicious use of VCB, ABB, or thyristor switch based on the individual devices. In particular, utilization of semiconductor switches is becoming more common in fusion equipment power supply system. The circuit interrupters based on this DC power interruption technology should be useful in future thermonuclear fusion equipment.

Multiple mirror field with shear in the regions of bad curvature is formed by using a shaped ferromagnetic material in a uniform magnetic field in order to stabilize instabilities driven by the bad curvature of the field. The realized field has a feature expected for both the multiple mirror and l=3 helical fields. The rotational transform angle and shear length agree well with calculated values.
