Exeriments on magnetically driven shock waves have been reported by many anthers. In this paper, following exerimental results and its discussions are described in the cases that ambient gases are 0.1-1.0mmHg argon and hydrogen.
(1) Exact measurements of shock velocities using photomultipliers.
(2) Observation of the disturbance of the magnetic field associated with plasma Passing through the field which is previously applied in the direction of shock wave propagation.
From the above measurements, it was found that maximum shock velocities are 6.1cm/μsec for hydrogen and 1.7cm/μsec for argon. ion temprature, ionization degree and electrical conductivity corresponding to the shock velocties are about 2.8 X10
4 °K, 78% and 2.1X 10
2mho/cm for hydrogen, and 2.3 X10
4 °K, 95% and 1.4X102mho/cm for argon.
Also, attenuation and reflection of shock waves are observed and discussed.
