Complex formations of a quaternary tetrapyridinium macrocycle (Cpy4Br
4) with anionic species, mono-, di-, tri-carboxylic acids, adenocine 5′-triphosphate (ATP), diphosphate (ADP), and monophosphate (AMP) were observed in a neutral pH region. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was used to study reactivity and selectivity of the complex formations between the Cpy4 cation and the guest anions.
