JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThis report concerns studies on a new enricher used in GC/MS analysis. This enricher uses a filter made by sintering fine particles of stainless steel. The enricher was found to have a stable high performance, with a sample transmission yield of 35%(fluctuation, ± 10%)and an enrichment of× 200. To test the stability of this enricher with respect to samples, studies were made on aldehyde, alcohol, acetate, sulfide and chloride, as a result of which their pattern coefficients were found to be the same as those obtained using glass reservoir type inlet system. High resolution mass spectra of terpens were obtained by the GC/MS method, with the aid of this enricher.View full abstractDownload PDF (7699K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSFor the purpose of investigating the chemical reaction mechanism of various substances by positive ion impact in the vapor phase, an apparatus has been constructed. About50μA of beam current, in the case of argon ion, is available on this instrument; and the reaction products formed by ion irradiation for only five minutes can be collected in a constant yield to be sufficient for the usual chemical analyses. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSAn easy method of making a parallel plate electron multiplier, which is used for detection of x-rays, electron beams, and charged particles, is developed. The multiplier consists of two continuous dynodes, which are prepared by evaporating aluminum onto glass substrates on which carbon has been evaporatedin advance. The gain is in the range of106to 109, when the applied voltage is 3 kV. Some of thefeatures are quite good linearity of response except for the saturation region, extremely small noiseand long lifetime, and ease in handling. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA study on a flexible channel multiplier made of electron conductive polymer is reported.The tubemolded by extruding the material through a die under proper temperature and pressure. The secondary electron. emission ratioδ of the material used is about 2.5 at 200 eV in primary electron energy. The multiplier was operated in counting mode for investigating the gain and the deterioration. From thestudy on the gain distribution by means of a pulse height analyzer the most appropriate value of theaccelerating voltage has been found to be3000V. At this voltage the gain up to2.5×108 can be expected. It has been proved that this multiplier is also applicable to a photon counter in vacuum ultravioletregion.View full abstractDownload PDF (294K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSIn mass spectrometric measurement of isotope abundance, it has been assumed that ionization energy is same for isotopes. In this paper the finite nucleus mass effect and finite nucleus volume effect ionization energy are considered. Theoretical calculation and spectroscopic data show that the ionization energy difference between7 Li and6 Li is 1?10-4 eV, and only for Li the isotope effect by ionization energy difference can amount to the same order of magnitude as those mass descriminations evaporation of the sample from the filament, by ion optics in the ion source chamber and so on.View full abstractDownload PDF (427K) -
