In mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), tissue derivatization is now an essential technique for visualizing previously unseen molecules due to increased sensitivity. Scientists find various tissue derivatization methods for MSI reported since 2011. The most recent derivatization reagent is 4-(anthracen-9-yl)-2-fluoro-1-methylpyridin-1-ium iodide (FMP-10). The reagent derivatizes a phenolic hydroxyl group and a primary amine group. Because of the characteristics, the derivatization of FMP-10 visualizes various neurotransmitters. However, due to the reagent's high cost, the original paper's method is difficult to use practically. In this note, I will introduce an experimental technique to improve sensitivity with small amounts of FMP-10.
