FNTD (Fluorescent Nuclear Track Detector) can record radiation-induced tracks by fluorescent microscopy, which is utilized for radiation track imaging and dose assessment for personal dosimetry. Recently, various applications with FNTD are spread for biology and medicine. In this review, we introduce the current situation of FNTD technology and its applications.

The FASER experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), on top of the search for light weakly-interacting new particles, proposed a new detector (FASERν) to study neutrinos at the highest man-made energies and got approval by CERN in December 2019. With FASERν, the three-flavor neutrino cross-sections will be measured in the currently unexplored energy range between 350 GeV and 5 TeV. During Run 3 of the LHC starting from 2022, we will deploy an emulsion detector with a target mass of 1.1 tons, coupled with the FASER magnetic spectrometer. This would yield roughly 1,300 electron neutrinos, 8,000 muon neutrinos, and 30 tau neutrinos interacting in the detector. Here we present the status and plan of FASERν, as well as the neutrino detection in the 2018 data.

Yokohama, which was opened under the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and United States, prospered in the raw silk trade, and as a result of many foreigners staying in the settlement, the custom of summer vacation in the plateau propagated to Kanagawa Prefecture, which was Sagami Province. There are two highland areas in Kanagawa Prefecture, the Tanzawa Mountains and the Hakone Mountains, but Miyagase, which is located in the Tanzawa Mountains within the foreigner walking area, was already crowded with foreigners playing in the river from the end of the Edo period. It is probable that photographer Beato walked around Miyagase with his partner and painter Wirgman, and they also stepped into the Hakone Tokaido and Hakone Shichitodo outside the walking area. Beato took many photos and put them in his photo book “Japanese Landscapes”. His photographs were picturesque that viewers felt as beautiful as the picture, and it is thought that Beato created the groundwork that made foreigners attractive to Hakone. In this report, author would like to trace the highland resorts of Sagami along with Beato's photographs. Furthermore, we will look back on the efforts of people who made the foundation of Hakone as a world resort in the Meiji era.
