Ellipsoidal mirror is one of promising soft X-ray focusing optics which has many advantages such as no chromatic aberration and long focal length. Wavelength of soft X-ray is in single nanometer order, so that tolerances in figure error and alignment error are very high. This paper reports the effect of such errors on focusing properties in soft X-ray focusing, by using various wave-optical simulations. The simulations reveal the tolerances numerically. The required accuracies in figure error or alignment for ideal performances will play important role for developing the fabrication system and the alignment unit for the ellipsoidal soft X-ray focusing mirror.

A three dimensional molecular dynamics (MD) model combined with a finite element method (FEM) is proposed for the analyses of micromachining process. In the connecting area of the model, the displacement of a node in FEM model is given by the average displacement of atoms around the node in MD model. On the other hand, the force generated at a node in FEM model is divided among the atoms around the node in MD model. In this work, for continuous connection of force and displacement between two models, the size of connection area and proper number of atoms participating the connection are investigated.

Because a passive dynamic walking (PDW) robot can walk down shallow slopes using only an initial velocity and gravity, PDW robots are energy efficient. To date, they have been investigated only for shallow slopes and flat surfaces. This paper extends the walking environment to include a small stair step. Here, we use virtual PDW for a biped walking model with semicircular feet. This model has many advantages over the simple PDW model. We analyze the relationships between the height of the small stair step and the model's torque values, and between the height and the time taken to return to stable walking. This enables us to characterize the model's walking capability for a small stair step.

Cat has ability to safely land in the free fall. In this research, we first construct a virtual cat robot by Physics Modeling. Then we use Composite Neuroevolution to optimize its controller. Composite Neuroevolution optimizes multiple Artificial Neural Networks which are integrated into a complete controller in a pre-defined way. On the contrast, common Neuroevolution algorithms, for example CMA-ES, NEAT, CNE, ESP, optimize one Artificial Neural Network. In our experiment, only Composite Neuroevolution can converge. The result shows the landing behavior is achieved by our method.

There is a method using changes of the optical power of transmission and the reflection in the critical angle of a prism, to measure the tilt of the mirror. This method was able to measure the angle for sensitivity of the sub-micro radian. When the distribution of light is considered in this study, improvement of the precision is expected. But, the transmitted light changes the form, therefore the analysis of the transmitted light is unsuitable. Distributions of light before being incident on a prism and reflected light are analyzed. Those results are reported.

We would like to realize a control method of positions and orientations for nano/micro objects such like metallic/dielectric small particles, rods, and wires, which are recently chemically synthesized with various techniques. For this aim, an optical handling method based on electric field gradient forth arisen between metallic antennae by localized plasmon is proposed. The dimensions and gap-distances of the antenna structures are optimally designed with numerical evaluations for target dielectric objects.
